i think they are using heliums or trimix on their fills
What fills?? Have you not read the million other posts about how they are using the CCR LAR-Vs with pure O2? Yeah the Navy SpecOps divers who are doing deep water work are diving eCCRs with He based mixes but thats not what this thread is about. Why don't people read before they write??????

You could add helium to the LAR V loop and give it depth capacity. However, if you did that you'd have to add monitoring to make it safer, possibly add an addition valve and make it one convoluted mess. Ahh, best to keep it what it is - a beautiful 02 RB. Nothing to do other than don it on and go diving.

I met a guy at the local honda dealer who had just gotten out of seals. Trimix trained, rebreather too, 35 dives. Frankly, he didn't have a clue, about diving or selling cars. He asked me if my reg vibrates to let me know when I'm about to run out of air, not sure what to make of that.

If every "Navy Seal" I ever ran into was real, the Navy would have had to train more guys than PADI.

True that.
I knew (know?) a guy who claimed to be a trainer of SeALs, SAS, GSG9 and an advisor to the PoTUS.

I told you what I would have to do to you if you ever mentioned this didn't I. . .

:shocked2::shocked2::shocked2:

How big was his gut size? I am conducting a scientific study relating gut size to the amount of "assumed" military expertise.

My impression of BUDs training is that "you do it now or leave". Probably not a lot of time to think up tough questions and try to figure how things work. I imagine that when you are in the middle of that sh$% storm of training your head is spinning and you are just trying to get what ever your task is at hand over with.
I could be wrong!
I think you're probably right. I don't think the SEALS really care so much how something works per se. They will probably learn basic theory of stuff, some maintenance, etc, but not the hows and why. Example: Don't need to know detailed theory, auto mechanics, fuel chemistry, metallurgy, etc. on how an engine works or an electric starter works, to start a car and drive into battle. :wink:

Man, ain't that the truth. The only way I knew a couple of folks were SEALS was because I saw them in uniform and got to know them personally while I was in the Navy. Most are a pretty modest quiet group; about what they are and do.

People get the SEALS and the Experimental Diving Unit confused a lot.

The SEALS use SCUBA to get to the place they work. To do this they may use a rebreather and it may be a 100% O2 breather. They may also surface swim in, parichute in, take a chopper, run, walk, etc.

If they use a O2 rebreather will keep above 30’ for as much of the dive as possible but will do excursions down to 90’ if they have to. One such place of “when they have to” is entering/exiting a submarine. The old Boomer USS OHIO has been converted for use of a number of non-ballistic missile missions one of which is SEAL delivery. The deck of an OHIO class sub is just about 90' when submerged.

The Experimental Diving Unit will and has done a bunch of very deep stuff. Read 'Blind Mans Bluff' and pay attention to the underwater work at depths deeper then 1,000 feet.
