I simply have a strong line with brass clips at each end. One end is clipped to the boat...the other to the stainless gear ring on my BC. Then I strap everything down really well.

When I reach my dive site, I unstrap the gear, and throw it overboard. It is still attached to the boat until I leave the boat, don the gear, unclip, and descend.

No need for the brass ring because you have the gear loop on your BC.

Exactly what I do for the tethers. The rings on the tanks are for taking two tanks out (no sense paddling all the way back in for a second tank against wind/current). A knot around the valve is apt to work loose so I just clip them off and drop them in the water rather than let them sit on the kayak. I wouldn't trust a tank just strapped in if the kayak goes over in a wave, or tethered with a rope around the valve in any kind of significant seastate. Also, I have an old Dacor that is black and I don't like to let it sit in the sun, although it might be kind of funny to see a jet propelled kayak when the burst disk blows! If you're only diving single tanks then the tank's always with you and the point is moot.

Anyway, it was just a suggestion. Don't make it too much work or it isn't fun anymore. Heck, enjoy it snorkeling for that matter - just a paddle, pfd, sunscreen and snorkel gear!

I'll see you around this season Jenny, it's been too long!
Steve

Heck, Steve, I only paddle a mile out...I'd much rather paddle that mile back in to fetch the second tank than risk capsizing while switching.

I am VERY uncoordinated! :rofl3:

And I totally agree with the KISS method. Heck, I've been known to just take a bottle of water and my doggie in his PFD and have a good ol' time!

You need to come over soon and see what stuff I have and what little mods I've done, you should also come to the Kayuba meeting next week and talk to them, those people LOOOOVE to talk about kayak mods.

Here is another gratuitous doggy pic for your viewing pleasure.

BTW Jenny, Bass Pro Shops has some inexpensive legal PFDs on sale May 16-25. There is one for must $14.99 that looks pretty decent. Did you go over there and get your Rewards membership yet?

Kayak Jeff has a terrific selection of accessories, he's open 7 days/week, you should go there too. His shop is literally up the street from me so we should plan our visit around his open hours.

Sounds good to me... will sign up for the rewards...

Poor Barkley wearing a pfd. Look like a parachute on a parakeet.

I am yaking Thursday the 14th-- it is suppose to be 3~4's. If it is too crappy I might hit the Indian River (ICW) with rod and reel to try my hand at some tasty fishes..

Jenny, Congrats on your new Kayak purchase!

Debby, thanks for posting the pics with your dog, I love !

I'm thinking of buying a kayak, but never owning one, I have to do some research
on them.

Very cool, enjoy and have fun

excellent, Jenny

i am envious

i think i'll buy new batteries for all my backup lights to make up for it :)

p.s. Debby: your dog ROCKS!

Don't get the kayak till July 25! Aniticipation.....

Andy - no reason to be envious, when you come down to visit, I'll let you use it! ;)
FLTEK-- do your research and read the forums. I knew I wanted the OK brand, and have been looking on craigslist, freecycle, here, and other places. It was when Debby sent me the link that I decided to take the plunge and lay down some bucks. For me, it's do the research, look, wait, and when you make the decision, don't look back. There will always be something bigger, better and cheaper a week later. A better deal two weeks later. No regrets. Go on ahead and enjoy the ride!
