Wow, I just typed the report from hell and my browser crapped out on me. Here it is, again, to the best of my recollection.
We had ehhhh vis again today, between 25 and 30 feet depending on which direction you looked. The top was flat calm though and it was a nice day to be out on the water. What the ocean lacked in clarity, it made up for with both variety and abundance. There was also a thermocline at about 100'. I clocked the temp at 67 degrees. The cold layer was flowing south, the warm (72) layer was moving north. Both were gentle.
Here's what we saw... Alex the captain saw a manta ray. It went right under the boat exactly when I was ready to jump in, camera in hand. I quickly powered it up and jumped in, but the ray eluded me. Down below, the other Alex (Alex B.) had a find of his own... a mola mola! I also missed out on the mola mola, but I think that everyone else got to see it, and one of our divers even got an awesome picture of it! I'm working on getting it posted so you guys can check it out. In the meantime, here are some pictures that I took.
Here is an honest picture of how the water was on the Castor.
H20 Skier plying the depths on the Castor. Mrs. H20 came out too, but I messed up her picture.
Incidentally, If anyone is ever diving with me and wants the pictures I took of them, email me with the date(s) of the trip and some means by which I can identify you in the pictures and I will reply with the full sized image.
Solensdotter came out today too!
We found a small loggerhead on the ledge on the second dive.
Alex B. captured a nice gag... 19 lbs.
This just in... with permission I present:
The mola mola. Awesome.
Thanks Rick!
