Although it is somewhat of a struggle to remove my hood since it's attached to the vest I wear under my wetsuit.

If you had a knife with you, that would not be a problem would it? :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

Let me rephrase, it's best not to critique someone's comment lest ye know what you're talking about!!!!:mooner:
I was talking about their use of language. And that is something you don't have to have 500 dives to know something about. I am not the one who stated that both hoods and gloves were permitted only for warmth. The poster apparently meant to say that both hoods and gloves are worn for warmth, and gloves are permitted only for that reason. If he'd proofread his post, he might have noticed that he was saying something silly.

LOL- if you'd read my profile you'd see that your "he" is a she...and a 60 year "old timer" one according to you. Guess I've earned the right to be "silly" in my old age... I've been called worse over the years !!! I'll forgive you since you did start a great discussion about hoods in this thread.
Hey, Hoodman....I'm still patiently awaiting Episode 2 !!! ;) Surprise me for Christmas :kiss2:

I had a knife with me on every dive for the last three trips and nobody said anything about it. The water there is warm enough that only persons with extreme problems would need gloves to keep warm. Once upon a time a thread I started on exactly this topic turned into the biggest argument I have ever seen in this forum. Some divers think it is their god given right to wear gloves at all times and advocated hiding the gloves in their BC pockets and donning them once underwater.

Last trip I wore a hood, and would have been cold without it as the water was 78F. My hands were not cold without golves.

Okay. Sorry about the gender confusion. Friends, I hope. :) BTW, I, too, am 60 years old.

(And I promise I won't use my hood to collect coral or muzzle eels. :D I need it to keep my head warm. Yes, even in Cozumel.)

45 minutes? My daughter and I did the resort course in april, enjoyed 2 easy afternoon dives after spending several hours in pool and classroom, and got hooked. We've spent months getting ready to enjoy our first dive oriented trip, to Cozumel. You mean I could have skipped the open water training, open and advanced open water dives and practice dives? lol

We wouldn't have missed any of our training dives and enjoyed every one. After buying basic gear, our first purchase was good quality retractors to make sure our gear stays tight. And we got what we needed from reading this thread - the kinves stay home, along with the gloves (we don't get cold, we dive in NJ, lol), but the shears will make the trip.

I still need to know where to get one of those shark hoods, though!:eyebrow:
