Just got back myself. Scubatyme is a good boat and they do have afternoon trips. Morning is better/calmer. I had a shorty and was very comfortable, then again, I'm from Minnesota. Most people had a full 2-3mm wetsuit. It's a bit cooler below the thermocline at about 85 ft.

Not always true, there are no hard, fast rules as to what time of day is "better or calmer". There is also not always a thermocline below 85'.

With the exception of the manta ray, there is nothing out of the ordinary on that list. On the deep reefs I've seen all of the above plus hammerheads, lemon sharks, bull sharks, a sailfish, a sawfish, goliath groupers...I could go on and on.

I'm just trying to point out as someone who has been diving the beaches and boats of South Florida for many, many years there is no comparison for "big stuff" sightings between the deeper reefs of South Florida and the shore dives.

I've never been to the deep reefs, only to wrecks followed by shallower (30 to 60 ft) reef dives. I still think of the Sea Emporer as a feeding dive. Maybe I should try the deeper reefs and maybe farther north.
