Hi all, I just found this awesome forum and looking forward to learning more about diving. I just got my PADI open water cert and will be getting in the ocean soon for my first real dive. I'm hopping to land me a large lobster or something but we will see.:D If anyone has some good pointers on some fun gear to bring down to a wreck please post or pm me, that would be great and very helpful.

Welcome to Scuba Board, Daggnabit. Congratulations on getting OW certified.

I don't know if you consider a flashlight a "fun gear" but I found it useful when I was diving wrecks in Ft. Lauderdale. Good luck on landing a big lobster or something and keep us posted on it.

Hi Daggnabit,
Welcome to SB! Along with Samantha's dive light advice, I would also carry a goodie bag for the bugs or any treasure you find.
I would also suggest you take an Advanced Course ASAP so you can do some of the deeper wrecks and learn how to use a lift bag. Then you can really go treasure hunting.
Stay in touch and send us pics.

I agree with George.
The best thing you can take into a wreck is more knowledge, expierience and a well qualified dive buddy.

Welcome Aboard !

Welcome Diver. I like your board name.
Thank you!

I would have never thought of a flash light and yet it makes perfect sense. Are the goodie bags the mesh ones or something else?

Safety is alway #1 in my book, I have been looking into advanced diver courses. I have taken some interest into going even higher than that but we will see, one step at a time.

Hi Daggnabit,
You can never go wrong taking an AOW course. It doesn't matter what agency - they all offer something good. Many people mix and match different agencies with different courses. Also, check into the specialty courses in the fields that interest you. For treasure diving, nitrox, deep, navigation, search & recovery, night, low vis, come to mind. Like bugs - check out Underwater Hunter. Plus at some point if you want - extended range (Technical) courses. Rescue Diver is one I personally believe all divers should have. The sky's the limit! Don't want to overwhelm you, but it's good to plan and equip ahead. Talk to your LDS and instructor. S/he knows you best and can give you good advice. Maybe someday, we'll meet on one of those famous NY/NJ wreck dives.
