Hi, I'm Cathy. I jumped into the weigh-in threads quite a number of months ago and then I just stopped showing up. Didn't stop working on my fitness goals, though! When I started getting healthy on December 11, 2006, I weighed 290 pounds. I'm 5' 8" tall. Since that time I have lost 97 pounds and would like to lose another 45-50 pounds. I will get there eventually!

I have been really good about getting my cardio exercise - every day for the past two months I have done some cardio in the morning before work. (Usually an aerobics DVD in the comfort of my home.) But I'm bad about strength training and I know I really need to do that, too.

So, my goal for the next week is to go to the gym and lift weights at least twice.

I continue to walk 2 miles per day, despite the heat. But I really need to do more.

Okay then, a little tough love: set a goal here and hold yourself accountable! What "more" will you do in the next week? I find that when I make vague statements like "I need to do more" it doesn't get me moving the way setting a specific goal does.

Walking 2 miles per day is great, by the way. :)

right now I think the only way I'm getting in the gym is if I can talk myself into getting up at 0500 or earlier. which I hate.

we walk 1 mile at 1000 and another at 1500. the morning is usually hot but not horrible. the afternoon walk is sorta like a death march across the desert. typically 96 or more with lots of humidity. brutal when the sky is clear, which it is right now, we have a high pressure cell sitting on us.

most peeps at work have quit walking, just a very, very few of us left.

Argh, the afternoon walk does sound unpleasant! And I hear you about hating to get up early - I am not a morning person, either (though I get up at 6am to work out because it's the only time of day I can guarantee it will happen). Is there anything you can do at home to get a little exercise to save yourself from having to go the gym? Even a quick walk around the block when you wake up would help give you a little extra kick to your workouts.

That's great Cathy. Please keep us updated.
The only time I hit the gym last week was to use the whirlpool for my aching muscles from diving the Galapagos. I really haven't felt that well since I've been back. Having stomach issues. I wonder if I picked something up in Ecuador. I have a doctor's appointment next week (the soonest I could get one and that is WITHOUT socialized medicine:D) I really hope this goes away soon because it is a real drag. On the plus side, I don't have much of an appetite so I'm not gaining.

FB, hope you feel better quickly.

I think what I really need is a different house. One where I have space to set up my stuff again. I have a bowflex, straight & curling bars, dumbbells, stabilizing ball, etc. No place to keep them set up here so I can use them.
