Hey there,
Help me out and let me know what shark species I may encounter on a dive at the Jetties. I am getting a trip planned with a friend of mine and he has expressed some concerns. How often are they encountered would be good to know as well. Thanks in advance!

Brad

Here is an informative video on the "laughing destinshark":

YouTube - Strange Wilderness Shark Scene

They don't actually bite, they drown scuba divers by making them spit out their regulators.......

This thread is epic. Just be sure not to harrass the sharks. They have lawyers too.

back slightly on topic here... .**Gasp**

(the topic of actual sharks in Panama city )

a boat off the beach today at sunset was it seemed "shooting a gun" into the water. At least that's what it sounded like.

my first thought was they were shooting at a shark....

then they moved the boat down the beach about 100 yards.... turned in towards the beach again and fired what sounded like another 'shot'.

All I can guess is that they were shooting at a shark. it was pretty loud. ( I was about 100 yards away from the first sound, but wasn't paying attention).

surely they weren't shooting as it was one of those "Sea Blaster" boats (tourist boats) and they wouldn't have been stupid enough to have done that.

I took a pic right after the "2nd shot" hoping to zoom in and see a gun on the guy standing on the bow, but I couldn't see anything as he had his back turned to me. oh well.

anyone else seen this in PCB?

EDIT: A little more research and it seem they were really firing a weapon off the deck of that boat... but it appears all in fun....

from The Sea Screamer - Crew, the bottom pic is a member of their crew firing their small 'pirate cannon' off the front of their boat.... this explains what I thought was white smoke that I saw.... oh well. didn't mean to cause more of a panic. back to our regularly scheduled posting of whacky sharks.
