My wife and I are headed to Cozumel for 6 days of diving May 4 -9th. Staying at El Cantil and diving with Blue XT-Sea. My wife really likes just diving in her 3MM shorty which she can do for multiple days of two tank dives as long as the temp is 80F or above. So what is the current water temp?

I may have to talk her into getting a full 3MM if the temp is below 80F.

I'm guessing you can expect 81-83 degrees, very unlikely to find spots below 80.

When we were there Mar 13-18, our computers read 81 degrees on the dives.

There's a sticky at the top of the forum about water temperatures. In my experience (which is far more limited than I'd like) they're always about the same. According to my computer, there's very little difference between August and February, surface or 130 feet, night or day - most of my readings are around 80F. Maybe my thermocouple is broken.

Just got back from Cozumel April 16 for a week of wonderful diving. Water temps were 80-81 degrees each day we dove - we spent almost 18 hours underwater total - and the 3mm shorty will probably be fine, but if you plan on multiple days of repetitive dives, a 2/3mm full may keep you warmer. This is what my buddy and I wore, with a beanie, and we only got cold on our final dives towards the end of our trip. Also, there were quite a lot of jellyfish in the water, small, but able to sting nonetheless. Full suits protect you a litte more from the environment. Your choice. Safe diving.

We were there is March and most of the dives were below 80F. I am a bit cold blooded and wore a 1mm hooded vest with my 3mm suit which works out fine for me. We had a couple on our boat that canceled because they got cold after a couple of days but they were wearing shorties. Depending on how much fat you got, your metabolism rate, air consumption rate, age, physical condition, food in your gut, rested or not, and probably other factors I can't think of will dictate how warm or cold you will be. Better too warm than too cold.

During my 5 days in coz last month my computer read 79-80 the whole time. I was comfortable in a 3mm full suit with hooded vest doing 3-4 dives per day. Others on the boat seemed fine with 3mm shorties ans skins until the day we had a mini-Norte. It was very windy and overcast and the people in shorties looked uncomfortably cold getting back on the boat.
