I'm not sure what the full foot conversation is about...referring to booties? I would say it's a good idea to have booties on the AKR shore dive. You have to walk out aways from the beach and there's a lot of coral and urchins. Love Crocs though, I always wear them on the boat and they were great for walking around the Key/taking the "water taxi". (water taxi takes like 1-2 minutes from the Key to the resort).

We did the dolphin snorkel instead of the dive because other people kept saying the dolphins don't hang out much on the dive. They also don't hang out a ton on the snorkel, their enclosure is pretty big so they take off. It was exhausting swimming to "catch" up to them and then dive to see them swim. Whenever we go back I want to try the dive next time, I'm more interested in seeing how they swim underwater. They are incredible creatures.

I'm not sure about the weight integrated BC's, we have all our own stuff so I didn't pay much attention. I want to say some other people in our group ended up using belts. The cactus juice is pretty similar to other bug repellents. Take a couple backups and use whatever seems to work for you when you get there. Also recommend taking a bottle of calamine lotion like RotanMan suggested, if you do itch it feels pretty good. As for the sun, I am really prone to bad sunburns if I'm not careful. I was careful all week and on the last day we did the Dolphin encounter and didn't put anything really on and fried.

The cactus juice lotion has sunscreen in it, the spray does not. If you use the lotion and be carefull you won't even have to worry about using sunscreen.

I'll get it all, just to make sure I have it all covered. What's up with the Cactus juice? Do you apply it before the sunscreen or after? Why does all this have to be so complicated! ;-)

About the FFF,..good idea, I'll get a pair of crocks..or crock rip offs.

If you wear the croc knockoffs or any lightweight shoes to the platform make sure you weigh them down they will blow off the platform before you get back:D I think Doc uses one of the 3lb weights that are on the platform to weigh his down....

if you look on the cactus juice website you will see there are several types of cactus juice....the lotion has suncreen and repellant....the spray or gel is just repellant....

I guess we've been there at the same time pretty often. ;)

The problem with leaving your Tevas or Crocs there? If you come back in a different way or if you do what we always do... we SCUBA in past the platform upon return. Yes- we stop and get the Crocs, but keep diving in that 4' deep to shore zone.

We crawl out on our bellies. Much to see in the 95 degree (water temp) shallows!

Most divers never notice the Sailfin Blennies or the dozens of other spectacular critters that inhabit that 150 foot shallow sandy walkway.

Some divers run out of air- we run out of water. Then the next problem is standing up, fully geared, from 8" of water. You help me, I'll help you.

YES WE HAVE:blinking:

AND THE LITTLE ARROW CRAB THAT WILL ATTACK YOUR FINGER IF YOU POINT HIM OUT TO SOMEONE :rofl3:

YEAH I CAN'T GET UP IN THAT SHALLOW 6" WATER...SO I SWIM BACK OUT TO THE DIVE PLATFORM AND WALK BACK IN:D

My tactic was to roll onto my shoulder, undo my BCD, then roll out of it and take off my fins. Standing up became easy.

yeah that may work for you....but I have a hard time lifting the tank and weight intergrated bcd out of the water once I have it off....and I have yet to find someone who will carry it back to the gear locker for me:D

curious-
when you say Roatan is not known for the "vis" . what is the vis?? 10feet, 30feet, 50 feet??

Wow,..crazy amounts of info here. Ok...I'm getting the
crocks for sure, because I now understand which platform
everyone has been talking about! Totally get it now.
(the shot of the beach cam on the site) I could use
one of those climbing hooks, and hook it on to that
pole with the flag? That would work,..wouldn't it?

The cactus juice: Thinking I should just buy it at the
resort? or I could buy it online? I would prefer the spray
stuff (repellent only) because I use a spray sport lotion
for the sun. "Umbrelle" Great stuff,...doesn't irritate my skin.

Dolphine Dive: I think that we have to do this. Definitely
like the idea of being "IN" the water with them...it's something
to see, for sure. The dive sounds much more interesting than
the snorkeling. I've seen video of the Dolphin dive,..and it looks
really cool.

All this talk of how to get out of the water.....rolling out this
way,..getting out that way, taking this off, and rolling on to
the shoulder. hahahaha....like a bunch of beached whales!
( not in a rude way)

Roatanman: I'm also curious about "Roatan is not known
for it's visibility" ????
