Why vintage? Are the current regulators not as good?

Of all the SP 1st stages, the MK17 is the one I had my eye on for sure. I would want it in DIN.

I guess I just need to sit down and do some thinking. I really like the DVT because I am not sure how you rinse the threads and stuff of a 1st stage with the dust cap on. I think Aqualung has a DVT type system as well. My dive instructor was telling me about it.

Must Haves
Lifetime warranty
DIN connector
Environmental Seal
Balanced 1st and 2nd (overbalanced ok for 1st)
Rated for cold water
Good reputation

Nice to haves
DVT
Ability to purchase online
Free DIN to Yoke adapter included
Longer service intervals like 2 years/300 dives. Or Dive Rites 2 year/200 hours

I think that is really what it boils down to for me. I just needed to put it words again. Hrm. I guess it really isn't a lot of money, mostly a piece of mind I am paying for.

From the website:

All our products come with a 1 year warranty from time of purchase. We will repair or replace a product due to material or workmanship issues. Warranty does not cover misuse or failure to properly care for product. This includes bulbs and batteries.

I probably shouldn't be so caught up in the warranty, but it says something about much the company is willing to stand behind their product. I am sure it is a fine regulator, but exists other regs out there in the same price range with a lifetime warranty.

I am intrigued, I will have to look into more. I know that ScubaPro is a huge name and seem very popular. The MK17 is an easy 1st stage choice. Not sure about the 2nd. I don't really like their warranty is contingent on yearly service... but whatever. I will get whatever regulator I own serviced after the recommended time.

Ok.. being serious now!
Dive Rite
ScubaPro
Oceanic (maybe.... if I can get over the warranty thing)

Do other people have this hard of a time when it comes to regulators? Or maybe they just buy one and are happy with it.

Its not been mentioned much ,but Apex is a really great reg.
apex would be my second choice.
They have a nice yoke/din converter that would be nice to have.
Plus this reg is viewed as maybe the Best reg on the Market.
I have never heard of anyone switching from apex to any other reg,but i have heard of divers switching from some really good regs ,including scubapro, oceanic, atomic to Apex.
the xtx200 is there top baby, but the xtx50 would be as good i think, the xtx50 has swivel turet fo more comfort and no hose pull.
However the xtx200 hose routing accounts for it so both would be good,:D xtx50 a little lower cost.

Nope ... it's not that hard. Your head will definitely spin if you look at all the options and manufacturers out there. You need a reg for cold water ... therefore you need a high-quality reg. When I started diving, I bought regs that I knew I would grow into. I knew that technical diving was where my interests lie and that b/c I live in Canada, I would always be diving in cold water. I then looked at what the pros/highly respected tech divers were using: at the time, it was Poseidon. There's no hype or marketing gimmicks, they don't push 'new' models every year; Poseidons use proven engineering. Additionally, they've been designing/building regs for a very long time. As I mentioned in my previous post, Apeks has also gained serious ground in the tech-scene. You want a good reg, look at what the people who push the limits use: Poseidon and Apeks. I'm not saying that other regs are crap, but for whatever reason, these are the most trusted regs when it comes to reliability and performance.

Would you lump the Dive Rite Jetstream in there? It basically uses Poseidon parts with some lovely additions... Nitrox compatible, Better warranty.

[edit]
I take that back... it looks like Poseidon is covered with a lifetime warranty as well. It is strange though because when you go to their website: POSEIDON - The Ultimate Dive and look at their regulators and click on technical specifications you get conflicting information. Hrm.

Well there aren't really any "additions" it's just a Poseidon reg with Dive Rite stamped on it.

Hrm, well the poseidon jetstream does not appear to be nitrox compatible. Either that or their website sucks :p
