I am a current DM candidate - I just want to be closer to diving between my trips here in land-locked Colorado. I want to assist on trips, be closer to both new divers AND experienced instructors. Seeing both, and anything inbetween has learning potential for technique and/or equipment. I probably will not proceed onto instructor, at least not in the near future. It will just raise my own bar and keep me into diving between trips.

Hey go for it! That's why I did it. I may bitch about the crap I see out there but I do it for the same reasons. And it's enjoyable to get the occasional "thank you" when you help someone out or give some advice. And like you said, it's time in the water in between fun diving and trips. There are many benefits to it.

LOL, no not beat up. I wasn't ever anything to speak of in the music business. The results of my efforts in the dive business is common knowledge around here, and then there is my time as an engineer and before and after all that (and currently) as a farrier.
You know what they say? Every coin has two sides. I've had some incredible oportunities and I've had the chance to try, do and see things that many people won't ever get near. However, it seems that God (I believe in God) wanted me to see, but doesn't intend that I actually have those things.
I have a perfect wife, two great kids, a grandson and a host of other blessings, while day to day life just seems to get harder with every minute that passes. It's my opinion that God (remember that I said I believe in God) is trying to get me to grasp something a bit more fundamental...which for all my education, experience and, dare I say talents, I'm just to stupid to grasp.
Either that or my dear departed great aunt was right. She used to say that if it weren't for bad luck that I wouldn't have any luck at all. LOL
No I would not. But the reality is there a very few Instructors I know that I'd want to teach my kids to dive. When they get older I may just have to become one to get them in the water. Or give you a call.
Actually Mike.....If you look at some of my posts I'm a little dyspeptic at times myself.
