Buy resin reinforced (weight belt) webbing. Too stiff for your liking? Run it through the wash. Still too stiff? Wash it again.

Just note, remove any hardware first.

The next fad has to be "Stone washed" harnesses ;)

MHK must be ahead of the fads, I've seen one of his sets in a LDS here, man his rig looks like it has been around! I asked if he left it floating in an ultra chlorinated pool in full sun for a few months, the webbing looked as soft and pliable as the belt on my bathrobe!

I have to plates, one has has(had? Im thinking I changed it now....) the super stiff weight belt straps, and the other has softer aftermarket harness. It is not as soft as Halcyons but its nice. They both work just fine, the only downfall to the super stiff is I found it dug into the front of my shoulders as it curved to go under my arms. I dont see how anyone could say that the soft webbing cant hold up to the weight... yeah there are NO divers that carry 104s,130s, or anything else with stage bottles, scooters, reels ect while wearing Halcyon gear....

String, I must respectfully disagree with you. I use the thin, flexible webbing (I have two kinds; one is the Halcyon, and the other came from my LDS) on all my harnesses. I have no problem supporting LP85 doubles and a 40 cu ft stage, and the harness doesn't cause any problems. I also have no significant problems getting into the flexible webbing harness, compared with when I was using the stiffer webbing.

I know Rick Inman didn't like the Halcyon webbing, because he said the D-rings ended up slipping and being cattywhompus. I haven't had that experience, myself.

I use Halycon webbing and its fine, its also stiff. There are FAR softer and more floppy webbing materials out there. The Halcyon is fine (other than the fact its Halcyon) but some of the stuff out there is useless as its way too floppy.

The Heavyweight Polypropylene webbing from Strapworks.com is softer and comes in many different colors.
I bought heavy weight polyplo webbing from strapworks.com.
I guess for single tank use, it should be OK, but when I used those with doubles with deco tanks attached to the D rings. It can not hold the D rings in the place. It is not a softness issue but thickness issue. If it were slightly thicker, retainer can hold D rings in place.

I like DR polyplo webbing. H feels nice too. OMS is too stiff for me. I am not saying it is unconfortable but very difficult to adjust. DSS is also resin reinforced but seems not as hard as OMS. I have not yet tried washing treatment.

I think there are two versions of webbing from "H". I have four "H" webbings at this moment.
One of four "H" webbings is very softer and thinner compared to other three "H" webbings.

My personal preference is for the stiffer webbing. I buy it online at "Reef Scuba".
I had a knee replacement and sometimes I gear up in the water. I just find the stiff webbing much easier to get into with a backplate. My shoulders and back aren't quite as flexible as they used to be. Come to think of it..... neither is anything else.

I don't use a weight belt so I can't comment on that one.
