Who dives with a snorkel?

Snorkel while diving, no, hate it.

That said, I just returned from Bonaire and had some sinus issues and missed a bunch of dives BUT I bought a snorkel and after 5 years of diving without a snorkel, I discovered just snorkeling again. Guess what? Snorkeling is under rated.

OMG! Had to wear a snorkel today for training. It was awful. I nearly hucked it across the quarry when I was done. It always seems to get in the way.

As an instructor, I am obligated to have a snorkel on me. It is folded up and tucked in my pocket.

I take it out if I am in swells that are going over my head.

Only on Snorkel apporpriate dives (not many in other words).

I went diving with my son this weekend.

"Dad, do I REALLY have to wear my snorkel? It flops all over and snags on stuff."

I hate to admit it, but I told him, "Okay. No snorkel on these dives."

I usually carry mine tucked under my knife strap or in a holder on my shoulder, but I left mine behind as well.

We both surface swim on our backs, anyway.

I hate diving with a snorkel, the drag on my mask is terrible. I always take one in my bag if the dive op requires but I do not attach to my mask.

Being relative new to diving, i cant dive without my snorkel. Have had one too many gulps of sea water when the swell gets a bit choppy while waiting for divers to group at the anchor line.

Being relatively old to diving, I won't dive without my snorkel.

It all depends on the dive plan and the conditions.

Good answer. I consider it a part of self rescue. If I feel there is the possibility I may have to make a long surface swim to save myself I would ditch the drag of the BC, tank, etc and use the snorkle.
