I know this is a bit of a late reply, but I didn't say I was narced out of my brain. I said I was task loaded which makes the effects of narcosis more severe. 4 out 5 of the tasks I was doing could (and would have) been dropped if an emergency had arisen. Part of what I'm doing (and why I'm taking the PSAI narcosis managment class through level 6 - 240' on air) is to learn to deal with task loading.

I'm not suggesting that anyone else dive that deep on air. I'm not suggesting anyone else dive that deep at all. Don't kid your self. There are serious risks on both air and trimix. Either way, you better have your **** squared away and know what you are doing.

Either way, it is a personal choice you should make after informing yourself of all the risks and costs of BOTH ways of diving.

That's all I'm going to say on the air/trimix argument.

130 is a severe dive. 150 is getting crazy. At 165' MANY people are complelty disabled by narcosis (see the Trimix vs Air parts of this thread and go read "The Last Dive").

Just because it is the local regular dive site doesn't mean it is safe to break the rules. Travis is VERY deep, dark and cold. The combination can and will get you if you are not trained for it.

Don't think we are being elitist about this. I welcome and encourage all to the world of tech diving. I need more dive buddies! But you have to get the proper training and gear so you can do it safely. Anyone that is interested in this should feel free to ask HOW to become a tech diver on this thread or PM me and I'll be happy to give you a general overview of what you need to take and referals to excellent (i.e. people who pioneered the sport) instructors.

Please, please, please don't go there if you are not qualified to do so. One needs to understand mandatory decompression and the correct gas/gases and redundancy required to get a diver out safely. A recreational diver would probably have 10 minutes of deco obligation just to reach the start of the line in 10 minutes of dive time (and I doubt they'd be able to do that). Unfamiliarity with the conditions and the depth in said conditions will cook a divers gas up uber fast, not to mention all of the potential entanglement hazzards and potential silt-out conditions that exist down there.

I can't comment intelligently about it, because I just don't know too much about it, but an unqualified diver died at WP 2 seasons ago diving to these mentioned depths. Please do not become a statistic. Look at the public profiles of the folks that are doing these dives...we're all very experienced and we all have lots of training. Wanna do these dives? Get the experience and get the training...

My thoughts and well wishes for him...we are very proud of all our service men and women.

Another good friend and fellow SBer has a son going to Iraq soon also. Such wonderful young Americans!
