I'm pretty sure the location being discussed is the original Cozumel one in town not far from Chedraui

Many years ago the Acuario restaurant was at that location, right across the street from the Neptuno disco. Just up the street was the other disco, the Scaramouche. Those were the days, my friends.

You guys have been going to the island a lot longer than me. My ‘distant' memories aren’t really that long ago.

It seems that Guido's is always busy. I think most of the customers, it is a tradition.

I love their garlic bread - but I also like the same at La Cocay. What I’m not a fan of Guido’s about is that it’s hard to find a place that is cool enough. If you sit in the front area that is air conditioned you miss the ambiance. If you sit in the back - at the wrong time of year - it’s sweltering. Plus, it’s hard to compete with the Italian food in our area.

We always fly into Cancun as we spend more time in Puerto Morelos. Plane tickets seem normal for early January. Most rental rates are up in Puerto Morelos too, but we rented an AirBnB there for the 5 weeks we will be in Mexico for a good price. Out of the tourist areas in PM it is as cheap to rent for the 5 weeks as to rent 2 weeks and then 1 week later. A place we stayed at in Coz last year and 3 years ago is about $30 a night higher right now. Nice place. Probably worth the money but doesn't look like much on the outside and is out of the way. We will see if they get it rented

I wonder if Cozumel is raising the prices so they are becoming ‘out of reach’ for some who were visiting on a regular basis? $30 extra/night increase is nothing to sneeze at. I’ve seen a lot more availability lately but wasn’t looking at prices. If there’s that much open the prices should be dropping a bit.

Or the free upgraded room. If you are a loyal repeat customer, always ask if there is a complimentary upgrade available. It's happening all over Vegas hotels this month since business is way down.

My wife and I ate at El Moro tonight. We hashed out our history there. Our first time was in 1997, and we were there regularly for the next 15 years. It was our favorite restaurant, and we even got to know the family a very little. Then it all ended. Since 2012, we have been to Cozumel only a few times, and never to El Moro until tonight. We were, of course not remembered, but when we described the history, it all went to hugs and tears. We got the whole family history since then, met mom and dad again, etc.

What about the food?

I had wonderful Chicken Motuleno. Where else are you going to get a dish like that? My wife enjoyed her Yucatan-style chicken. Where else are you going to get a dish like that?

There was a large group (20) at a joined table. I immediately thought "dive group," but most looked nothing like divers.

As a sign of the current economy there, our taxi driver stayed outside the restaurant while we ate so he could take us back to our hotel. We were a guaranteed fare--better than the likelihood of sitting around hoping for one until it was time to go home.

There is a picture on the wall next to the cash register of our family and theirs together there at my mom's 90th birthday party. We lost Mom a couple of months ago; she was 97.

I don't remember when we found El Moro but I believe it was at least 30 years ago; we have been there at least once, usually twice, every time we have been to Cozumel ever since, which has been at least once a year except 2020. They remember us.

It has been a long time since Sandi and I stayed there (13 years?) and I don't remember the particulars but it was a positive experience.
