@nippurmagnum Thanks for the extensive write-up! Question: how was the WiFi and/or cell service at Taman Sari from the rooms?

Sorry, just seeing this. The wifi was not very good, but that's because our room was actually outside the hotel gates (we got upgraded to a villa.) It was actually much better within the resort.

Thanks for the great report.

I know it's been a while, but do you remember how long time it took to drive from Ubud to Permuteran?
Did you stop along the way to see something?
Likewise: how about the trip from Permuteran to Tulamben? Anything to see along the route?
Looking at a map it's quite far and I know the traffic in Bali can be very, very slow.

You can just plug in the into Google Maps to get a general idea of the drive times. If memory serves, the drive from Tulamben to Permuteran is about 3 hours. There is usually little traffic along this route but sometimes road construction can slow things a bit. The old Balinese capitol was in Singaraja. There are some nice temples in the area. Also dolphin watching in Lovina.

Yes, we left Ubud in the morning, and had our driver take us to Pura Ulun Dani Bratan (Lake Temple), Munduk waterfalls, the Twin Lake View, and then on to our hotel in Pemuteran.

From Pemuteran to Tulamben, we stopped at Pulaki Temple (Monkey temple facing the sea), the Brahmavihara Drama Buddhist Monastery, then drove through Singaraja and visited the Pura Beni (which was rather off the beaten path), then Sekumpul Falls, and finally reached our hotel the Tulamben area (which was in Kubu) actually.

And if you're wondering how I have such total recall, it's because I used the app TripIt to keep track of our movements.

As I write this, I'm sitting at the airport lounge in Abu Dhabi waiting for my flight for my return trip to Bali. :-)

Thanks - sounds like a great way to make a trip out of the transfer.
We used to live 10 min from AD airport - but only flew from the new one once. Enjoy Bali! Wish it was me.-)
