Hi, just curious as to what folks like to put on the end of string of the wing dump valve. I have seen Halcyon wings with a plastic knob or just a tiny knot at the end (which I suppose is the purist approach). Not looking to stir up any controversy - just looking for opinions on this benign topic.

I suppose the argument against the knob is that it can get caught in something and thus needs to be dispensed with. I will say however that there have been plenty of times when I have been unable to find the knotted string with a gloved hand even with a lot of experience with my wing. That is not optimal when you need to dump gas fast.

A knot fine for bare hands. I never dive with gloves but I would think it would be OK too.

I am a dongle free zone. I tie a double overhand knot, burn it and call it good. And, BTW, I use the kidney dump valve for most of my trimming. A knotted string is all I need and never gets hung up under or on something. You can see the piece of cave line to the lower right. That one is actually a bit long, shorter is better than long.

The only thing I hate more than dump valve pull dongles is those plastic D-rings on the ends of adjustable BC straps and maybe those high profile shoulder pull dumps.

When I cut the dongle from my wife's wing she fussed and fussed so I went to Hobby Lobby and bought those letter bracelet charms and voila:

Not nearly as tangle prone as a chunky dongle but still-----, like you know. Whatever it takes to make the women folks happy :).

That all looks pretty clean. Thanks for sharing.

I use a fishing outrigger ball stop, cause it’s the right size and you can get it in any color you want. A knot at the end of a line is probably ok for people wearing less hand exposure protection. Also the multiple broken fingers and couple of plates screwed in on my left hand make just a knot a poor choice

Thanks for the input. I figured there might be some ambivalence around this.

I can see how that might be helpful.

The knot can be a bit troublesome with dry gloves and liners. I agree for bare hands, sure, easy peasy. Thanks.

I have incredibly big hands, so I attached a wiffle ball to the end of my dump valve string. Works beautifully and makes dumping gas a breeze if I overshoot my 20ft deco stop.
