How long does a steel tank usually retain its + rating in hydro?

Not exactly. TC doesn't have pluses in their stamped pressures nowadays. Dual rated DOT and TC tanks will have psi and a + as well as a metric service pressure with no plus. They are the same pressure though.

You are correct, I forgot they changed their service pressure to match the fill pressure.
So much sense, so much easier.

I see Faber 85s and 95s up there fairly often. And 72s even - but no pluses, and not even TC ratings on those. They are getting Canadian hydros somehow, although it's beyond my understanding of TC regs how that works.

For the record, it's basically impossible to get a plus on a lp72, any of the faber MP 3000psi+ rated tanks (mostly MP72s which look like HP80s), or any of the PST LP series tanks here either - since the REE is almost always missing from those tanks/eras.

Unless the hydro place are divers with LP steel tanks or work with them often the plus stamp is voodoo or confuses them - hydro guy asked me why the 10% was important to me. I learned a lot about hydro folks mentality in that discussion. So as was mentioned, talk to hydro places about your expectations (what you want) and ensure they know what to do and are willing to do it. I have a lot of old '72s that don't have REE stamped in them, and have only found one place that will plus them (and I'm not sure they will next time).

I have a copy of the PST document that even with the error I have successfully used for my LP72. Of corse it passed but failed "+".

As for Faber cylinders with the REE. I have sent Faber via Blue Steel requesting the REE for my LP76 cylinders. They gave those to based on the serial numbers. Those cylinders have the "+".

I'll echo what Scared Silly said as a second data point. I emailed Faber directly and asked for the REE on an old tank based on the serial. They sent me the info within a couple of days and my hydro shop happily accepted the Faber e-mail and gave me the plus with no stamped REE on the tank. YMMV, of course.

... Good idea. I'll double check with San Diego Divers as I believe they do hydro in-house from what their website says. They also sell the tanks, but their pricing is literally worse than anywhere else for gear/tanks, so probably would just use them for hydros.

Please give an example of their pricing. What did you try to buy there?

My Worthy LP85s did not get a + on the second hydro. I asked several shop owners and they told me not to worry about it. I now conservatively fill the tanks to 3600.

Hey missed, this earlier, but I was quoted something like 1400 for doubled hp100s and I was able to pick them up for about 900 total. I was also looking at thermo manifolds, doubles bands alone, and some other various things like shearwater computers etc and they were all more expensive than elsewhere. Same with VIP costs etc.

Anyhow, I've finally pulled the trigger on the lp50s and look forward to putting them together next week and trying them out.
