I wouldn’t consider France a lower cost location at all. This is probably the most expensive country in Europe to operate business.

The cost of graduate staff in France is much lower than California.

Living costs for employees in France are much lower than California.

California has greater competition for talent in general.

The total compensation cost for a French employee is usually much higher due to the social benefit costs. I have found professional staff salaries are similar but it is other things such as shorter work weeks, days off, holidays that also impact productivity that drive up the cost. Plus it is more expensive and time consuming to make staff changes, which is usually why companies keep their French staffs and let others go.

Or a team of ten people working on it full time for about two years?
Well yes, I can do the math. Stating the number of development hours is just odd though. I mean, does a higher number mean they did a good job? Generally efficiency is a good thing. It's just a metric that has no value at all when discussing a new product.

I know exactly the diver being targeted by this: new divers with lots of enthusiasm and expendable income who show up on their 10th dive after certification with a new Hydros Pro, Bare wetsuit, and Perdix for a 50 ft reef dive.

“Look at the cool new shiny thing. Must get it!”

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

The same one trying to sell "an entire set of barely used scuba gear" on FB Marketplace for $4000 the next spring?

Ok, realistically, here's the question: What features could it have that would make it worth the money, potential electronic issues, and proprietary nature? Like, hypothetically, for it to not be a waste, what would it have to be able to do?

I can't think of any feature that would be worth the tradeoffs for the second stage with its giant proprietary hose.

I could see some value to having the AI transmitter housed within the first stage. But only if it were modular, i.e., the transmitter could be removed/replaced by the diver without tools or with something standard like a hex key and the stage could be used without it.

I resemble that remark.

Definitely going to buy one now it will go great with the Sea Dweller

I was thinking exactly the same. The proprietary hose with electrical a total L, zero benefit, all downside. I don't hate the concept of air integration being a little more tightly integrated with the first stage (but it really needs to be serviceable) and I don't mind the indicator light on the first stage, but it shouldn't really be doing anything other than like red <1000psi, yellow 1000-1800psi and green 1900psi+ or similar, not even user settable or the colors mean nothing. Also, a proprietary protocol on the air integration would be a really tough sell, can't imagine Garmin has any interest in licensing their IP, so MH8A or gtfo.
