In case you're serious:
- if you're diving in dark muck (caves, wrecks, etc.), you'll want a bright backlit screen.
- If you're doing deco dives you don't want a "recreational" DC: they will compute you a deco schedule, but it will be suboptimal at best (and with multiple deco gases: useless). Arguably you also want a ZH-L DC rather than a Suunto Eon.
- If you want air integration, Vyper Novo is about the only option under $700+ price range.

For any of the above requirements a Shearwater is a perfectly good choice and is not significantly more expensive than the alternatives.
oh no, no deco dive. but i see your point. thank you all for your answers.

That's what I'm learning- if at the end of the day it's a couple hundred more for a peregrine then it's an easy choice. A significantly cheaper used computer is the only significant price difference but that comes with its own set of problems... cheers all.

I definately want to deco dive in the future. Cutting a dive short because of NDL, sucks.

So consider that.

There are several great computers in the $200 range. We like Oceanic products. Great customer service…dad still uses a Prodigy. Mares Pucks are great…often see for less than $200. Good luck.

All I needed was two bottom timers and a dive plan on a slate. Various soft wares eg. Deco Planner, Pro Planner etc were available well over 20 yrs ago.
I had never ever used a computer for deco plan.

The only time that I have to cut a dive short because of ndl was on a square profile diving a deep wreck. Otherwise, multi-level is the way to dive reefs.

you're Canadian. Shearwater's Canadian. Buy Canadian. How often do you get to buy something designed and built in Canada?
Amen brother! Outside of poutine, this is it... I do love me some "made in Canada".
