I bought the Zeagle exactly for the rip-cord system, although I've never had to use it. As a former Sky-diver, the idea of pulling ONE cord to empty the weights is very appealing. Imagine sky-diving and having to pull two rip-cords to get the chute out?
Secondly, I've never used the weight pouches from Zeagle, I just toss a couple of soft weight (already in bags) into each side and zip it up. Works just fine.;)

I think the Zeagle is system is pretty funky. I, however, do NOT like the idea of one cord... all your weights... ditching ALL your weights isn't a very good idea.

metal dector, ditching weights is not the same as opening a chute! ditching all your weights (specially if you're using over 15lbs ditchable) makes you shoot up in an uncontrolled ascent.

I don't wear any ditchable weight mind you, but then again, I only dive with 4# total (including backplate) so I can swim up no problem.

Ditching to begin with should be done only in extreme emergencies... partial ditching is always more ideal than total ditching.

The Ripcord system however is a great concept for weight release. I wish they could, however, make a multi-stage release version.

Something that would have, say 4 pockets total... 2 on each side... and be able to release 2 at a time, one on each side.

The 2 cord idea of caveseeker would work for a multi-stage release system. :)

I have the Zeagle Concept with the RIP Cord. I have had no problems with it. I haven't had it get caught on anything or unthread. But like with any equipment, check it prior to diving to make sure its good. I think you'll be satisfied.

... turning it into a harness system (maybe) was mine. In Germany & Austria Zeagles are distributed by Barakuda, and aside the normal Ranger, 911, etc. they sell the Barakuda Challenger made by Zeagle. It has two ripcords. Too bad it isn't sold around here ... .

I really liked the look of the Zeagles, and they looked quite minimal which I liked, less drag. But the rip cord put me off, and the pockets I found were hard to load or access. The zips seemed to be set the wrong way.

But then each to their own, I ended up choosing a Halcyon MC System with ACB weight pockets, this proved to be even more streamlined and the weights are easy to use and release if needed.

Ditching weights sin't the thing to do at depth. It's for at the surface. If you feel like you'd need to dump weights at depth to get to the surface you need to take a close look at your rig. Once at the surface if you have doubts about being able to stay there toss the lead.

Aside from a set of double 104's, with which I need no extra weight, my favorite weight system is a weight belt and that also is an all or none proposition.

Some of the instructors I dive with have insertable pockets on their BCs, I don't know how many times they have lost weights. They comment on it too, the old Zeagle's they had it was never an issue, but the shop changed brands. If you do go with a BC that has pocket weights, look for one with the plastic clip to make sure they stay in. The velcro isn't enough. That or order extra pockets.

Personally, I think I'll keep my Zeagle, maybe consider going to a Ranger, but then again the Concept II works just fine, and weighs less and isn't too bad to travel with.

Not broken, don't fix.

I think I just talked myself into saving some money.

Hey, Rob they won't make me give up my Zeagle will they
