Last night we discussed how to keep the gear clean and why it's important to do so.

Very interesting.

That sounds like a good discussion topic, since newer folks can ask "why" and more experienced folks can say "I do it this way". We're looking for ways to attract people- thanks!

  • Techs from the local shops demonstrated basic reg. maintainance
  • Dr. Michael Powel, Dr. Deco on the board, lives in my area and has spoken to us about decompression research
  • Local travel agents have given us tips on planning dive trips, especially for groups
  • We've had gear show n' tell from the members. For instance, those using doubles have shown how to set them up and explained how they work, why they use them and answered questions. Same with users of BP and wings.
  • Some local dive shops bring a selection of new on the market gear, a couple times a year. After DEMA for one, to show the new stuff they will be carrying.
  • Photo slide shows by members returning from trips.
  • Picnics, cruises, group trips, local clean ups, etc. are just some of the activities we do.

Another thing that our club has been doing for over 25 years is the annual Scuba Flea Market. It started out as the club members bringing their extra gear, stuff they no longer used, and traded with each other. Over the years it has evolved into a day long event with local dive shops, various scuba related venders, and research organization booths. We have door prizes and raffles, Bar-B-Q and snack bar and lots of fun! People come from all over the state and look forward to this event every year. This is an excellent way to pass along gear that you no longer use but is perfectly useful for someone else.

Hey, Dee- By coincidence, we're going to use one of those topics as our first meeting. Amazing that your flea market has grown to such an event! And I like the clean-up idea.
