Finally met another of the Philippine paradise Divers Jonix! was really nice to meet you and your family. it was a weird feeling going to anilao in that early, rain drenched gloomy weather...

it was raining pretty hard and the waves were getting pretty big but God had a hand in the beautiful weather after. the sun came shining out and turned the gloomy weather into something reminiscent of a perfect summer day. Jon is was right to say that the weather changed for the best.

we were alo the first to get to aquaventure and the divesites were pretty devoid of other divers. we were basically one of the only people diving in anilao. was worth it if you ask me!

1st dive: mainit was mediocre. kinda getting tired of this site:( not to mention that the viz was so-so. kinda bad at the surface but once you break 10ft the bottom opens up into something more maneageable. saw a large school of medium sized barracudas (highlight of dive) easy diving and totally devoid of any currents, stil yet to see my first predators.

bahura/layag layag on the other hand had so many surprises. this dive had it all it was like an adventure. vizibility was very very good. i wouldnt call it gin like it was more like vodka:) we saw an abundance of all kinds of fish. we saw a lone sea snake, several moray eels of assorted colors. this giant trigger fish going nuts while ravaging its prey. there were lots of fish participating in this feeding as well. me and monique went kinda close to this big fish which jonix later pointed out. at the end of the dive we saw a very large turtle wading through a large school of bright orange fish. was extremely happy that i was satisfied after 2 dives.

August 13 @ Anilao, Batangas

arrived at aqua around 7am it wasn't raining but there were no divers in sight...arc staff said there was one dive scheduled for the morning but the lone diver was still asleep. in the distance dark clouds hovered and soon enough the winds started picking up and eventually it did rain alright. i said to myself, "good luck with the waves". just after spoon arrived the sun broke through...in an instant we had near perfect weather. ;)

at that time there were only 4 divers a aqua including me, spoon and monique (the american diver went out just before spoon arrived).

Dive 1: mainit...viz was quite bad as spoon mentioned but became better at depth. was guzzling air so much that in just a 20 minutes i had less than 1,000 psi and had to signal the dm. not seing much on the site, i focused on my bouyancy as i really feel rusty. reaching 250psi i signaled OOA/share air thing and the dm (jake) deployed his octo...i cleared it and got my first whiff. at that point the dm checked on spoon and monique who was behind us and to our shock, the tug caused by his movement dislodged the mouthpiece from the octo! i had the mounthpiece on me and the octo was on its way to his mask! god! you should have seen his eyes! i'm quite certain his eyes could have popped out! he was quick to remove the mouthpiece and at that instant i started the "small bubbles thing" while he simultaneously handed over his primary second stage...all this happened at around 80ft. i swear, if not for us being at that depth, had it been say 5ft...i would have bolted to the surface ang laughed my ***** off!

from there the dive went smoothly and when we did saw the school of barracuda, i and the dm were below spoon...the scene was quite nice actually as the sunlight breaking through the water with the barracudas and spoon in the frame! cool!

Dive 2: Layag/Bahura...viz was very good, maybe 50-60ft again this air guzzler had mr dm deploying his octo late in the dive (we later discovered before doing the safety stop that my second stage was slightly freeflowing...kaya pala) :-(. this time everything went fine though.

the dive through layag layag was all that i expected...nice wall, morays, small reef fishes and the black and white banded sea snake. there was an overhang where the dm and went though...there was nothing there. a few minutes later we saw this huge trigger fish ravaging its meal...i and the dm passed it and looked back at spoon & monique...i think they got too close (maybe 5-6ft) as this mammoth trigger turned and faced the two, i said to myself "oh *****!!!". they distanced from the trigger who probably found his meal more interesting than these two divers, that was the end of that.

further into the bahura area was a spectacle that i find very surreal, it was like a footage from the BBC documentary Deep Blue...the large school of orange fishes spoon mentioned and the turtle. actually it went more like this, i and the dm were quite a distance from spoon and monique when we saw the huge turtle maybe 60-70ft infront of us. it dove to the area where the orange fishes were all lined up, then suddenly it shot up at an angle broke the surface and dove back to feed!!! for this newbie diver it was quite a sight!!!

from the instant the dm saw it he pointed to it with his knife and started banging on his tank so we could get spoon and monique's attention...i tried for my knife but wasn't able to get it, got my reef hook and tried using it to bang my tank...di umabot!!! bwahahahaha. soon spoon and monique saw it and they stopped finning just in front of us...what a sight! back at the banca i just couldn't believe what i just saw...for this newbie it was simply amazing!!! :D

oh and sorry to the small patch of coral i managed to hit at layag layag...i just got carried away, literally :D

My comments:

Dive 1 - bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha after 20 minutes less than 1,000psi :11: That is not a dive profile, that's a suicide profile!!!! bwahahahahahahahaha
Its a gud thing you didn't swallow the mouthpiece cuz of shock when you saw the octo suddenly detached and floating away from you! Guys palakpakan natin c Jonix for keeping his head!!!!...... and the mouthpiece..bwahahahahahahaha :D .

Dive 2 - Ahhhh swabe nice nice nice. Envious pards, dive time?

Seriously, u did gud except in air management. Loose some lead pards.
