Like your opinion, based on experience, which regulator in this series breathes best ,and, easiest to service and maintain?

The D400 is the only one I have any experience with. It is a great breathing reg, but can be a pain to repair and tune. Its just a little different than a lot of second stages.

Do a search for posts by DA Aquamaster on these regs. You'll get all the info you're looking for.

The above link to the thread covers it.

In short, they all breathe great and you would not be able to tell one from the other in a blind test - other than perhaps the last of the D400's made with the plastic orifice. Some of those beathe well while others do not and can be very difficult to tune to anything approaching normal D300/D350/D400 performance.

One thing that was not mentioned on the above link, and a key difference between the D-300 and D-350 is the service cap in the top of the regulator. The cap is made out of a harder plastic than the case, therefore it is prone to stripping particularly if ever cross threaded, the D350 uses coarser threads to help prevent stripping the plastic case, this was found to be a problem in repeated disassembly/resassembly of D300's used in the repair clinics and something to be very aware of in a 20 year old regulator.

p.s. They are all wonderful regulators, I have a D300 that I bought new in 1988 with well over a thousand dives on it that still works, its just a bit cosmetically chalenged and I keep as a backup, my current regulator is D400 that I bought 3-4 years ago.
