hey all-
just wondering , when diving at 50-60' just how much fluctuation of depth is o-k?
like if i'm at 60-62' for 8min , then up to 54' (over a reef or other obstruction, but in control of bouyancy) then back down to 60' is this o-k?
i know in a dive there will be some depth changes(up and down) i guess i'm asking if there is a "standard" or something that makes a more experienced diver say "oops, i'm not gonna do that" or, does everone rely on computers? i don't have one (yet)
please keep in mind i'm talking open water only, not that deep, dark water!

that's really typical on a reef dive. so long as you keep your buoyancy controlled and you're aware of your depth, air and time, you're fine

Enjoy,

Yup, garden variety minor depth variations. You can probably "breathe" your way over a 5 foot obstruction anyway. At 60', a 6-8' variation is no big deal, it's only 10 percent of your depth. At 20' it would be a more significant variation, since it would be one-third of your depth. That's why bouyancy control is more difficult at shallow depths than deeper ones.

As long as you aren't holdoing your breath, no problems!

After all we're exploring a 3D world down there, not a parking lot.

I always considered a YoYo profile to be more like 60-30-60. On a 20' max dive I wouldn't think twice about wandering up a ledge to 10 feet so I'm hesitant to say a 50% rise is bad.
