It would be sad if the YMCA no longer offered scuba training. I got my scuba certification in 1961 thru the YMCA program in Memphis. I was 14 at the time.

Look further and you will find that the same program that YMCA used to offer (not the one from 1961) is now offered by Scuba Educators International SEI Diving Home Page

So for those of us with YMCA sea cards can we continue our training/certifications through SEI?

CMAS has always been a completely seperate entity. You may, by equivelency recieve a CMAS rating by taking any level YSCUBA course. We are to date the only agency CMAS will do this for, due to our high standard of training.

The YMCA SCUBA Program is the oldest certifying agency in the country and as I said before is still in the SCUBA certification business.

A YMCA trained diver has been through a course of instruction with some of the highest standards on the planet and I for one, am quite proud to offer YSCUBA programs!

CMAS has been cross certifying BSAC divers for years.
My Sports Diver cert gives me a CMAS ** rating, and it's nearly 20 years old.

Yes you can.

And in the US only SEI instructors who have used the equivalency option may issue CMAS certs.

True 20 years ago, but not now.

To get a BSAC equivalence in CMAS (Why) the application goes via the Sub Aqua Association (SAA).

In my opinion BSAC's diver and instructor qualifications stand on their own, being ISO accredited - including nitrox. Which the SAA does not hold.
