Thanks for validating my thinking. I am somewhat looking for more dive time but also to have more air for safety.
More air does NOT automatically mean more safety. Planning your dive and managing the gas you have is what results in more safety. I would not enjoy carrying a tank that weighs 10 extra pounds, and I have a feeling those weights are a little light. I guess if you're always on a boat and/or you're a real he-man it won't matter that much, but most of my local dives involve a decent walk. I use 72s most of the time, even though I have a faber FX100.
To me it's more fun to use the smallest tank appropriate for a given dive, not the biggest. It's nice to have a big tank (or doubles) if you need all that gas for a particular dive. If you're only getting 40 minutes out of a full HP100, either you're a big guy, diving pretty deep, or maybe could use some work on air consumption. Well, truth be told, we all could, so don't take it personally.
