Wrist Mounted Dive Computer for New Diver

The problem is I don't know enough to know what it is I want hence this thread. As for the DM candidate...I still don't know how that is there but apprently it is quite the big deal as I have multiple people question me on it.

Well, you should know this:

If you progress all the way up to Instructor, in sport diving (aka what many people mean when they say "recreational" diving - versus technical diving, which is still actually recreational diving*), you will still not be diving with Trimix.

To be using Trimix, you would have to progress from your OW sport diving certification into a tech diving curriculum, which is a completely different thing from sport diving Instructor training. Well, unless you get into one of the less-common agencies that teaches Recreational Trimix, but I digress...

So, if you're just going for OW Instructor, you'll still only be diving air or Nitrox - not Trimix. And if that changes your computer requirements to remove the "Trimix-capable" requirement, then you have a much bigger store to shop in.

*Recreational diving includes sport diving and technical diving. Other types of diving besides "Recreational" are Scientific, Commercial, Military, and Public Safety (that I can think of). But, usually when people around here say recreational they really mean sport diving - which is generally defined as one gas, no overheads (e.g. no going inside caves or wrecks), no decompression, and a max of 132' of depth.

I understood the OP to specifically want Trimix capability. Are you suggesting that this Lynx will do Trimix?

@stuartv Thank you for that breakdown. I know I want to get into side mount but as far as tech diving..I am just not sure I will go that route so this is great information that helps tremendously.

Well, like I said, if you aren't going to get Trimix certified, then you don't need a Trimix-capable computer. In which case you have many more options.

Yes my current DC works but I am not very fond of it. I got a good deal on it and it has worked as a started to get me to depth and out of the water in a safe manner. But it is not at all what I want to keep diving with.

So I guess instead of giving us a wish list that will be near impossible to match in your price range, tell us what it is you dislike in your current dive computer. And when we say wait to spend it is with the hope that you will not be on here in a year looking for your third dc.

And I did not say buy a Perdix but like a Perdix. But then it also means that you will be in the price range of a Perdix.

I am sorry if I didn't ask the right questions but what i did was list what I knew I wanted and my current budget in hopes that my fellow divers on here that have a lot more experience could help me decide what fit that price range. With little knowledge how am I supposed to know that the options I want do not fit into the budget I have or would be "near impossible" ?

Isn't that the point of this board or am I missing something? I thought it was about divers sharing information and a great source for new divers to ask questions that the more advanced and experienced divers could answer. I don't know what I don't know so I thought I would ask.

another point to the OP- if you become a DM, you are more than likely working for a shop. With that usually comes the requirement to wear (sell) the shop's brands. Buying something now to satisfy then is a more than risky endeavor....

What solves your current needs/wishes is the only reason to buy something, and not knowing those is reason to not buy now.

Folks have shown you the products that achieve your goals, but you have to realize that these carry a hefty price.....

I'd suggest you invest money in diving more to understand your goals better, not immediately upgrading....
