I've been going to the Cancun area for over 20 years. In "normal" time flights from Denver to CUN, direct, average $400 - $450 round-trip. We're certainly not living in "normal" times this year. My family of 4 flew to CUN in late August (bag drag to COZ) for about $200 per person round-trip.

Due to my wife's work schedule (Accounting year end) we can only go on vacation in November or February. December and January are out of the question.

Back in October I was looking at flights and Feb flights were around $400, direct from Denver. I checked Frontier yesterday (not my favorite airline) and were able to get round-trip tickets for the 4 of us for $155 each. Too good of a deal to pass up. Frontier sucks, and they charge for everything additional, even carry on bags, but when you're a family of 4, flight costs really add up. I've never flow to CUN for ~$700 for 4 people (plus baggage fees). I prefer to fly direct with Southwest from Denver, but they want over $400 per person in February.

Of course a lot can change between now and Feb...but I refuse to let COVID dictate my life. Attack life, it will kill you anyway.

Check flights, good deals can be had now! This is the first time ever I've gone to Mexico twice in 6 months (hopefully)! Prices are too cheap to pass up!

I had round trip to Cun from NYC over Christmas for $238 RT but had to cancel for work. Rebooked for January to Coz for $304 RT. Shizzle is still on the cheap.

But fear Frontier. Fear them.

I am looking at a trip to CZM from LAX late Feb. AA is charging $489 RT for coach and $630 for first.
Considering I’d have to pay $40 for my second bag (1st is free), I think the extra $101 is actually worth it especially if I can score a lie flat Business class seat LAX>MIA and back. There are some 777 and 787s
I did that last month.
Unfortunately they removed most 777s from LAX>MIA so only lie flat 787 on the return.

Hope it’s not on AA...they plain suck. I’m not even using my AA return this month from COZ, we bought one way tickets home on JetBlue out of CUN...never again on AA, never!

Yeah, Frontier used to be Denver's hometown airline. Back in the mid 2000's they were actually a decent airline. They are now in a race to the bottom with most other airlines. A few years ago they swapped out all of the normal AirBus seats to something new...and awful. I can't even describe the seats they have on the planes...Basically there's no cushion.

However, they are one of 3 (I think) airlines that fly direct to CUN...Southwest and United being the other 2. If price are similar I'll fly Southwest first, Frontier second and United third. However, beggers can't be choosers. Hopefully I won't get screwed by them...we'll see.

There was an old joke in the Soviet Union that the seats were so uncomfortable on Aeroflot because they were trying to shape the "new Soviet man".

Somethings never change.

uh oh

I was on a Spirit return flight from Chicago a few years back and the seats were actual plastic. Hard plastic, no cushion, and had that bumpy elementary school red ball texture on them that just irritates your ass instantly. I stood most of the flight. Air travel is getting worse and worse for the common schmuck but it still beats walking.

$472 from Lubbock or Amarillo RT to Cozumel, $458 to Cancun. Yawn. That is a lot cheaper than I paid one year, but I can't get excited about plane travel after this year. Too many flights canceled, had me jumping thru hoops, never left Texas.
