I'm thinking about buying a bcd on ebay. would you guys trust them (them being the random schmuck on ebay) for bcd's and regs?

kinda like asking how long that 100 cu ft of air will last... it depends...
at 20 feet drift dive or a 100 foot wreck dive...
If it is from a guy with 100% positive feedback, offers a money back if not satisfied, should be good.
If the person's feedback rating is 90 % and selling as is, I'd sure shy away from it.

BCDs are pretty straightforward and you can probably do a pretty good check out of it yourself. And even if it did fail, you should be able to swim on back up to the surface anyway. The biggest problem I see is that fit is very, very important in a BCD and you can't check fit over the internet. OTOH, if you know what model and size you want, then go for it!

I'd be more hesitant to buy regs off of E-bay, and there is probably less financial incentive once you factor in the fact that you would probably get it inspected and overhauled at your local dive shop as soon as you bought it.

I dont trust ebay ...period.

I got my first bc for $65 on eBay and it did great for me. It got me diving regularly at a price I could afford and gave me the experience I needed to figure out what type of bc I wanted to step up to. Anytime you buy from eBay you have a 50/50 shot at getting something that works.

I disagree with the 50/50 comment. I have been selling and buying on eBay for the past 5 years with about 80 total transactions. If you buy from sellers with 20+ transactions and a very high approval rating, the odds are good that you will be happy with the transaction. Having said that, I personally am not buying any used BCs or regs on eBay. My money has been going to ScubaToys for great products, deals and service.

I could be inclined to get a BC from ebay but probobly not a reg assembly....Make sure that the persons rating is very good and that you can get your money back....Those online stores are usually more reliable than a single person. But I am going the way of buying new gear from DSS and Scubatoys I think!
