Only been diving for a year,

But so far Cayo Largo, Cuba was excellent for me !!!!

Was talking to a MSDT the other day, he has 1000+ dives under his belt and says Cayo Largo would probably be 2nd or 3rd best dives .... just behind Indonesia ..

Diving buddy on last dive trip told me best ever dives in Egypt !!! for shark diving .

Scapa Flow & Sound of Mull, Scotland

Plymouth, England

Baltimore, Ireland

or you could waste half the holiday in a queue to check you handbagage for liquids/nailfiles etc....

Penguinboy:
I knew some smart guy would say that :D your bathtub doesn't count though

You haven't been in my bathtub, Penguinboy. If you play your cards right....

Seriously, though. This is rather a broad question with no real answer.

Get yoursef a hammer and some spanners and go for a slosh in the Flow.

As much as I love Hawaii, if I had to dive in only one place the rest of my life it would be the kelp forests of the Channel Islands. Very diverse and the kelp rising up from the bottom is stunning. Those who have not dove in a kelp forest need to add that to the list of "must dives".

Unfortunately, kelp needs cold water to thrive and conditions can be difficult often times.

Never thought I would place Maui second!:(

There are so many areas to dive and such diversity underwater that the "best" would be impossible to find!

But I adore my local area - the Ningaloo Reef. With 260kms of reef plus the Gulf, I'll never see it all!

I just returned from diving Cozumel and I had a fabulous time with wonderful dives. Couldn't ask for more than we had in Cozumel.

But then I got home and did dives last Saturday and it blew my mind. And this was on sites that I dive regularly. It's good to be home :)

The best diving I have seen personally is Little Cayman. Bloody Bay Wall is spectacular, the marine life is varied and abundant, the water is gin-clear, and the reefs are healthy. There is basically nothing to do but dive, so you don't have to deal with cruise ship passengers and party animals. It's eat, dive, dive, eat, dive, eat, sleep, and start over again. In the Caribbean, I can report from personal experience that Cayman Brac (about three miles from Little Cayman) is almost as good as Little Cayman, and Cozumel is also great, but different. Spectacular coral formations and great drift diving, plus there are things to do topside.

From reports from friends (and watching their video), the Galapagos has to rank right up there with the best. Schooling hammerheads, whalesharks by the dozen, seals, penguins, maybe some melonhead whales, etc., etc.

If you like wrecks and would like to see well-preserved 150-year-old wooden shipwrecks, come dive the Great Lakes with us, particularly the Straits of Mackinac. The water is really cold, but that fresh, cold water keeps those wooden ships intact. We don't see a lot of fish, but the wrecks are pretty amazing.

I amk surprised that nobody has said british Columbia yet. Sure it's cold water, but the diving here is absolutely spectacular!
