I know this discussion is a bit long in the tooth now but as the father of the young diver concerned, I thought I might make a few points. I'm also a PADI Divemaster - though not a "working" one.
Thanks to all who congratulated Charles on his achievements and thanks also to the sceptics for being constructive.

Great to hear the real story! I wish you and your sons much success on your diving adventures. Maybe in about 10 years my kids can join me as well!
 
I second RR response, glad he is enjoying and continuing to learn scuba with a base around him to encourage and put the reigns on him (if he were to get over-confident - hasnt hit teens yet!!). As for the comments and how this thread went, as usual, a lot verred off the subject and went on to discuss the MSD (or JMSD) cert and its merits. I hope your boy reads the constructive parts of this and many other useful threads on this board and overlooks some of the less personal negative things said.
