Americans don’t want to pay the higher prices US made goods would cost. I seek out US made goods whenever I can and the cost is significantly higher.
Americans are too short sighted to look into the future to see the eventual real cost.
Part of the problem for US manufacturing are environmental restrictions, there are unions to deal with, medical coverage, retirements-pensions, paying a livable wage, etc. Farming out everything to China eliminates all that. That’s how we’re getting all the cheap crap at the dollar store and Walmart/Target. But all it has done is driven consumerism to a hyper level. Back when appliances were made here they were expensive but they lasted a very long time. There are blenders and mixers from the 1950’s that are still around and they still work! And you could get parts for them if needed.
Now the Chinese crap breaks down after a few years and ends up in a landfill because there are no parts, you just buy another one because they are cheap enough. How is this sustainable? How much of this garbage ends up in a landfill? It’s staggering!

No, these are different concepts.

Yes, when you're Microsoft. When you're the consumer buying a $1,125 PC with bundled Windows 7 Premium (MSRP $125), and you're asking for that PC without Windows for $1000, the shop will tell you they are not.

Microsoft isn't selling this other software. They were strong arming the OEMs to put their crap instead so that people would use that, rather than install other (better) options. It was to maintain dominance/maintaining a virtual monopoly. Subsidies is for making other businesses viable. MS execs were total idiots for what they were writing in email. The DOJ got off their backs when GWB won thanks to lots of campaign contributions.

Microsoft isn't selling this other software because it's free. The part where it costs the OEM more to sell the computer without software, than to sell it with Windows pre-installed, is not "giving money to OEM so the price of their Windows computers remain low", I grant you that. It's more of a "nice computer business you got there, be a pity if anything happened to it" scenario.

An offer they couldn't refuse.

Port of Oakland has been shut down for a few days and it looks like it will continue. Truckers are protesting a new California gig worker law.

And yes, the terminals will still charge storage of at least $100/day per container if free time expires during shutdown, even if you’re unable to pick them up.
