The British Isles are currently being hit with a winter hurricane, felling wind turbines & cranes, washing part of a Scottish hotel into the sea, winds over 90 mph at times, flights diverted to Germany, etc.

Diver dies in Storm Ciara after getting into difficulty near Oban
A diver has died in an accident off Oban in Argyll during Storm Ciara.

It is believed the 50-year-old got into difficulties in the Sound of Kerrea today.

Police said the death was being treated as "unexplained" but there were "no suspicious circumstances."

The man was with a group of divers who were located on the shore at south of Oban.

It is believed the death is not weather related. (That was a surprising note considering the headline.)

Oban Lifeboat was unable to reach the group because of the weather - coupled with the fact that the ambulance service was already on scene.

"At 10.15 today a 999 call was received by HM Coastguard regarding a diver in difficulty near Oban," said a statement by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

"A coastguard helicopter, the Oban Coastguard Rescue Team and Oban Lifeboat were sent to the scene. The diver was recovered from the water by people on scene."

Not a hurricane....not a tropical storm. By definition.

Ok, nope, you're right. It's a hurricane-force winter storm.

Who cares. Report said incident had nought to do the weather.

In a quick google search, a bit chilly there but man alot of cool real wrecks not far from shore. Kind of envious.. :(

“It is believed the death is not weather related. “

Not actually a denial, waiting for follow up.

There are several news sites carrying the story, but pretty much just echo the first. This one Man dies after diving incident near Oban | The Oban Times did add this...
Shortly afterwards, further reports reached the coastguard of another diver drifting to the north. The lifeboat immediately proceeded to the scene and discovered that the object was actually the dive gear of one of the divers.

We knew what you meant Don, calling it a hurricane immediately gave the people who came to this forum to find out how this poor chap died a feel for the conditions.

And The Guardian's "Storm Ciara hammers UK with hurricane-force winds and floods" headline confirms the force involved.

Since I'm here, a huge thank you for all the threads you've started that collectively have likely saved my life at least once. So much to learn once these guys get talking! :)
