Wing inflator button sticking

So my HOG wing uses a one of the standard inflator/deflator units
.

The inflator button has become a bit sticky. Its not terribly hard to R&R (soaking the pieces of course), but is there a more durable fix? Is there anything wrong with applying a little silicone lube?

Not familiar with THAT inflator but it looks to be a semi-standard one > meaning has a shaft and a couple O-rings. Things have gotten dry and corroded so need cleaning and lube.
Chances are you can grab that 'nut' under the button and unscrew the whole thing. Inside you'll probably find what you need to clean and lube.

Why does every damn BCD maker have to create yet ANOTHER proprietary inflator? Jeez, standardize!!!!

And the tool and parts to overhaul it. That's as close to standard as you are likely to get.

I generally see more dives scrubbed due to inflator malfunctions than reg problems. I just carry around a spare inflator and zip ties.

It is my experience that the internal parts of the inflator tend to corrode. There are replacement inflator valve assemblies on ebay for around $5 each that fit the DGX and many other inflators, and the DGX inflators themselves aren't that expensive. I carry a spare valve and the wrench.

DGX = Dive Gear Express.
Click on my link above. That's what you want. Parts and tools are shown below that. Get the inflator, the tool, and the parts kit.The whole thing will cost less than an new HOG inflator.

I get about 1 year/50-100 dives before it needs another overhaul. Generally you can simply clean it up and re-use the parts. There are only 2 dynamic O-rings. If that makes you nervous, replace them.
You can check the integrity by hooking it up BEFORE installing it, pressurizing it, and throw it in a bucket of water. No leaks > it's good. IF you press the inflate button to check that function expect to get wet.

Nowhere can I find parts for the HOG. Doesn't mean you can't fix it, just means you are kind of on your own. Shops often don't repair inflators, they just swap them out for another overpriced proprietary unit.

Here are the ones I bought. $21 for a four pack, free freight. I find that they fit my DSS and DGX inflators.

For $5.25 delivered price I just replace the valve module rather than try to rebuild it.

Be aware, those probably will not fit your HOG. They are for the DGX style of inflator. You need that first.

If you don't have the service tool, try some vinegar and WD40 from out side but pushing the button, better from the inside you only need to take the hose apart

Vinegar yes > works on corrosion.
WD40 > NO!
1. It is NOT a lubricant, it is a water displacement (WD, get it?).
2. WD40 is petroleum based product > it will eat up some O-rings depending on what is in there.
Pure silicone is probably fine or [Seal Saver] which is essentially silicone.
