I can try.

But I failed. It is in my attachments but I can not move it. Try a search on diy trim weights

Maybe I can post something when I get home in a few days. I can describe it, though. 8" of 2" wide soft webbing that weaves through the weight and then has a velcro closure on the ends. You fold the ends around the camband and the velcro holds it together. Once the camband is tightened on the tank, it's held in place by that, so you don't have to worry about velcro letting go.

This seems like a simple question, but I see people often recommend weighted STA's, various pockets that slip onto the cam band etc.

If someone were cheap (like me) why couldn't they just slide a weight or two onto the cam band itself? I know it would take up some slack and would not be convenient to add and subtract weight frequently, but it seems like it would be done once.

Would it cause the tank to slide through the cam band?

That is exactly what I do when I'm not having any changes to my tank size over the course of a few days.

It does not cause any issues with tank slippage-however, I use two cam bands.

I made a camband myself and attached 2lbs of weight onto the tank.

It messed up my position esspecially when i turn sideway, the weight pulled me to face up.

While diving horizontally, I can deal with the trim. I've seen alot of people putting weight on the tank and they have no problem.

Maybe it's the position of the weight that I've placed wrongly and causes all the mess.

But it helps alot on the surface for my back inflated bcd.

The reason I did that was to distribute my weight 1/2 on myself and 1/2 on the bcd to reduce the risk of sinking when i need to throw my bcd and wear my bcd on the surface when dealing with a small busy boat.

I've having a problem understanding the big issues here.

Consider boat diving, carrying the BCD (or BP/W, it makes no difference) on and off the boat each day, and wanting to distribute some of the weights to higher on the BCD for trim. You can put pockets on the cam band, or just attach weights directly to the cam band. the advantage of the former is how easy it is to remove the weights at the end of the dive day, especially if the weights are borrowed from the boat. The advantage of the latter is no pockets are needed, but the disadvantage is the possible fuss with attaching the weights.

Unless you are trying to achieve a permanent weighting arrangement, what is the problem of pockets?

No problem with pockets, the advantage to me is setting up for the second (and first dive). Its much easier to get the BP/W adjusted on the tank without the 'extra' 18 lbs of lead I carry when diving dry.

10 lbs on the top cam band, another 8 in quick release pockets on the waist belt

Clearly my perspective is different, perhaps living in the tropics. Putting 1 or 2kg on a cam band is simple, with no extra attachments. What is the fuss in adding or removing one wt. to a cam band? Perhaps I have a limited understanding of the issue.

I use a bit of bungee to attach weights to almost anything similar to 2" webbing, like a cam band.

Sweet!! I'm going to make a few of those and keep them in my kit for folks who need to add weight but have nowhere to add. Great idea, thanks!

Maybe you like to remove cam bands and fuss with threading weights. I enjoy just dropping a weight in a pocket. I also enjoy having my weights balanced on either side of the tank, so I'm not keen on putting a single weight on just the easy end of the cam band.

Good point. Rather than removing the cam band completely, I just attached a single wt on the next to the cam band, held on via the end of the velco strap. One wt does not effect my balance, and its way better than a wt belt. With multiple weights, using pockets seem like a good idea. Perhaps when I return to the USA and start to use heavier exposure suits, I will have to modify by kit.
