I dont mind the cost a bit, its aqua therapy. Just dont ask my wife. If she only knew!

Just use this little message....

"Is my SCUBA expensive honey? Naw, I bought it all on Ebay for $500. Great deals there on that Ebay thing." :winky: :yourkiddi

First, always use cash, never a credit card. Second, eat the receipt. Third, when asked "How much did you pay for THAT," divide the actual cost by three . . . oh - four.

What type of car do you work on/race?
Just about to complete building a mitsubishi evo 9 (group 'A' spec) for rallying that I will race.
Don't think I'll do that again. Too much time, money and research. It never ends. You keep finding more stuff that you need/want. Just found some fellows that promise a better performing turbo than the one I already have. That's another US$5,500.
I think I'll go back to buying prepared cars and upgrade as necessary.
Thank god I have diving to keep me relaxed.
Trust me... this sport isn't too expensive.

Ya, I have an Rx-7 that I dump way too much money into. ;)

If you think scuba is expensive try flying.

Private Pilots license about 5k, insturment rating another 5K. Multi engine rating 3k. Insurance another $500 each year.

Small planes about $100 an hour to rent, perhaps 100K to buy. Nicer ones up from there easily reaching 300k to 500k.

VFR charts $250 a year, IFR another $500. GPS 2K, check rides $200 per aircraft type, bi anual flight reviews $500, medicals, head sets, hand held radios, lap desks, the list goes on and on...

there is a joke about the pilots pencil.

Painted yellow, made of cedar, six sided, graphite and clay writting element centered, approved and certified $19.95, eraser extra.

Scuba is far from the most expensive. As someone said, try yacht racing. The boat is the least expensive part. You need to replace all the sails at least once a season. You need to paint the bottom once a season. You need to replace lines made of such products as Kevlar and Spectra every season or two. You need a diver to clean the nicely painted bottom every week. Of course, you need crew, which you must clothe, feed and transport.

But, all of that is nothing compared to the jewelry you need to buy your wife so she will fit in with the other women at the yacht club while you are racing the boat.

BTW: The boat is only marginally usable for diving.

Scube diving is my 5th hobby and I can tell you it is cheaper so far. I started out in Remote Control planes and helos. 2nd was golf, 3rd was my horses that I love to ride, cant anymore though. 4th was shooting competively for several years buying new rifles and relaoding equipment I spent a fortune and then some. Now 5th diving I have spent $278 for OW I just bought a BC with octopus and dive knife and several other items along with the hoseless puter for $600. I have to get a few other things that are less than $800 and I am ready to dive. Okay thats what i'm telling the wife ;). Devil is still there on my shoulder telling me to do it I promise. I am in the middle of so many fresh water dive spots so I don't have far to drive. I am planning a trip to Belize Blue hole for next summer.
Of speaking of racing I raced Motocross growing up and getting two new bikes every year was the cheap part of it.

Diving has its expensive side too, take a look at high end rebreathers.

What...you telling me this stuff is not tax deductible ? Honey, call our CPA. you have a problem.
MINE IS!! Well Mr. IRS agent, I am studying Marine Biology, I need this gear for field work...what that rebreather? It's from my most resent project, part of the grant... you'll have to talk to the school about that.

The other key to lowering the cost of Scuba, get your selfs Sugar Mama's like me, she's in the military..govenment pay... so technically, y'all are buying my gear. Thanks Guys!!! I appreciate the BP/W y'all are saving for. :D
