I just bought my first UW rig, and I'm afraid it will all be downhill from here...

I could probably manage a crack addiction for less

Scuba diving is cheap. Try Yacht racing. or sports car racing. or horse racing.

Scuba diving is cheap.

It's cheap from where I live but you folks that pack up and travel long ways to dive spend a fair chunk of change. I'd probably have had three more wives leave me if I lived in the US mainland. (well wait....the first one left because I surfed too much....but what's the difference?)

I think of my gear as $5k worth of life support systems. I have $4k to go because I still need to house my new 20d :)

yeah... very expensive hobby this is

i'm very happy when diving (less so when dragging my gear to and
from the dive), but man... talk about expensive stuff

Diving is expensive? Have you looked at golfing, skiing or even fishing? For golf there is always the "green" fee (in some cases can be as high as 4 figures) the clubs, the clothes, the balls....etc. Same for skiing, the lift, the hunnies at the chalet......and there is fishing.....you can spend close to 200-300 on lures alone for a season, not to mention the bait, the boat....etc.

So the way I look at it, diving is up there but is no more expensive then some of the other more popular sports/hobbies with a huge advantage! There are less of us doing it.

it's definitely an expensive hobby, especially the travel aspect.
actually, i have way too many "expensive" hobbies. scuba, car, snowboarding, and golf are the most expensive hobbies of mine. i should get a second job so i can pay for all my hobbies. :D

Yall are taking me too seriously :)

No, diving isn't the most expensive hobby -- it's not even close. But that's not what this thread is about :)

It can easily cost a few grand to get started, a few grand to take a trip, a few grand for those extra goodies (dry suit, camera, etc)....
