Hi Floater, thanks for helping me. So those equipment are "just" recommendations only so that mean I can keep using 1. Single tank, 2. Use a split although some DIRs would frown on it, 3. use an inflator-octo (Scubapro AIR2) 4. don't have to have drysuits?

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. No. At least, you can't only use an inflator-octo. I suppose you could have one in addition to a long-hose (5-7 feet) primary and a necklaced short-hose secondary. However, there would be no point in doing so.
4. Yes.

I have a question regarding the commitment to DIR. If you consider yourself DIR totally, and you were assigned for two years to work on a Diego Garcia type island but totally remote, with unreal coral wall drop offs, fish everywhere, just beautiful ocean, clear and 80 F, BUT..you were the only diver there and you only had air to dive with, would you dive? Or say "no thanks, I don't have my team here".

he he

Hank, you live too close to the equator, it keeps you sane.--it's all that vit D flooding your brain.

Knock yourself out.
you left out the part about entering the "fee exchange" zone and exchanging freely.

The DIR philosophy and GUE training works great in a wide variety of diving circumstances; however, I feel it is overkill for the type of diving that I do.

You don't need to complete DIR/GUE training to be a safe diver and a good buddy (aka teammate).

Plan your dive.
Dive your plan.
Plan and dive safely.
Maintain your gear.
Know your gear.
Take the kitchen sink with you, only if the kitchen sink is needed on the dive.

If one would not dive in those conditions, with that level of training.....whew....THAT really scares me...how can one call one's self a diver if you said no? But I would guess most would give and and go for it. How could you not? commitment or no....and anyway, who would be there to tell on you? :D

HEY..how come you can post out here with us regular humans? And you call yourself a solo diver. Do we get all bent? Nope.. ya'll have some militant fundamentalists, which is almost always spooky.

I'm not a solo diver...I'm a Scubaboard Guru. I know its so, because my title tells me so.

wow
OD'd on Koolaide?

I cannot figure out why I am not dead, being blonde and non-compliant.

I did get some really great help from some DIR divers, to be fair.
