This spring I hooked up with some of the DNY group at Dutch Springs. They are a lively bunch (Hi Sam), and fun to hook up with.

As others are telling you, the buddies are out there, you need to do some networking. Once the ice is broken the cliquish atmosphere goes away.

Hi, Mike. :hugs:

If you're ever back in our neck of the woods, please let us know so we can meet up and dive.

PvtStash and myself will be at Whitestar @8:00am. We plan on doing 2 dives. I need to get home by noon to watch my Wolverines (GO BLUE!). If you are looking, feel free to join us. PM me if interested.

Sounds like everyone is offering you some great advice...
I went to the spring meet and greet a few months ago and had a blast. I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces again this fall and meeting some new people in the process.

If you are up for some diving tomorrow The Indy Dive Club is hosting their treasure hunt at France Park tomorrow at 11 am. There will be tons of divers there...the only reason you wouldn't have/find a buddy that day...is because you forgot to show up :)

Submit an application to join the volunteer dive crew at the Newport Aquarium. The waiting list is approximately a year but once you are on and trained you will instantly have 150+ dive buddies. There are no dive fees. Air, regulator, BC, fins and weight are all provided. The surface intervals are a balmy 70 degrees and you are up close and personal with some amazing creatures on every dive.

My apps been in for over 16 months and I still haven't heard a thing :depressed:

Edit: My bad! My application was submitted just under a year ago. I should be getting a call any day now! ;)

Or volunteer at the cincinnati zoo for the manatee tank. I just finished my pool checkout tonight and there is NO waiting list! you do have to pay $65 for the class but it gets you a NAUI Specialty (I'm SSI), and you provide your own gear except tanks and weight. But after the class, its free, warm and a fairly open and flexible schedule.

Cant wait to see everyone at MnG!
