Diver Dennis:
Did you see the chart Paul? They used an SAC of .75 for a "calm experienced diver". Awful high, even for a new diver.

What I've seen as Basic standards:
<=.5 is excellent
.75 - 1.25 is average
>=1.5 a beginner

"Breathing rate shown is a good surface air consumption rate of only .75 cubic feet per/ minute rate, which would be realistic only for a calm experienced diver. High stress could double this rate. Next larger size should be considered if there is any question."<<<Their quote not mine...:D

Hmmm. I didn't know the average was so high. Thanks.

He could end up in the "vegtable garden" as we call it.

We call them mobile organ donors...

Those SAC numbers seem reasonable for an emergency situation, but are much higher than what I've observed with dozens, if not hundreds of instabuddies and other divers on boat trips.

I'd say the average resort boat diver is around 0.6 to 0.7cfm. 0.5cfm is excellent, 0.4cfm is last one up. Newbies are 0.8 to 1.0 range. But this is all for NORMAL SAC.

0.75cfm is only a 30 minute dive at 60' using the first 2500psi out of an AL80.

I am a minimalist, I don't wear a helmet unless the law forces me to ...
And judging from your birthdate, you have probably owned a couple of cars that didn't have seatbelts, much less airbags and side impact airbags; and remember when seeing somebody on a bicycle with a helmet was a rare event.

Society's attitude towards risk has changed over time.

Hoovers are allowed to dive too...:D

Catherine...
Another benefit is that you could fill your pony with ean50 (or 100) and come up from the deeper dives "cleaner"/faster and feeling better afterwards...if you think about using it for that a 19 (or may I suggest a 30) would be a better choice...

Maybe it´s not much of a factor in Hawaii but here I notice it when I do safetystop with ean50 instead of air...maybe its just placebo but who cares? If I feel better, I feel better...
