Why does everyone say the snorkel is useless?

Hardly essential even for that. In-water mouth-nose is taught and practiced and works just as efficiently.

Unless I cannot read properly, my SSI Stress/Rescue manual discourages in-water rescue breathing.

In any event, the snorkel was not designed to be used as a rescue breathing aid.
 
SSI may do but other agencies encourage rescue breathing and actively teach/practice it.

As for the snorkel, i agree.
