When ports are closed, is shore diving allowed? Our hotel last month didn't allow it but I'm not sure if that was their policy or mandated.

In last December's three day Norte, Dec 9,10,11 we had 4 boats over there and saw a group of 10 divers on a small fishermans panga. It had 1 motor, no radio, no life jackets, no O2—no back up at all. What shop they rented it thru should be embarrassed. It is just a lot of luck that nothing bad happened. We have no idea who organized that trip but I hope it is not repeated, because one accident over there may cut us off.

WE would never go out there without Two Boats and complete safety gear.

Yes I would, absolutely, based on what I have seen. Piece of cake. Especially with ladder exits.

Are the beach clubs closed? Do the southern AI resorts close the beaches and prohibit entering the water?

Like I said, I'm pretty sure that it's mandated to stay out of the water when the port is closed. I've done shore entry at Blue Angel under good conditions and I've seen what the entry point looks like when the port is closed. I'm not trying it, but go ahead if it turns you on.

Blows my skirt up? You're the one acting like a scared little school girl, lol. Not all of us need to be helped in and out of the water. We jump into the water at BA from the dock and exit from the ladder on the dock. The dock isn't moving even on the windiest of days.

East coast was flat calm on 13,14,15. Chen rio, punta Morena looked fine for shore dives, but we couldn’t find any shop willing to go or to rent us tanks, so we ended up commuting on the ferry to Playa and enjoyed diving out of Puerto Aventuras.

I don't need help getting in and out of the water. I am in my late 60's, though, so I don't any longer think of myself as bulletproof. Go ahead on, though; I'll be the guy sitting back with a cold one when the waves are crashing over the ironshore by the pool.

BTW, "blows your skirt up" is like "floats your boat", or "lights your candle". No aspersions were intended.

I've been down for a week + in January for the last 4-5 years and have yet to miss a day due to port closures. It's quite sad that a man as old as Dave has to create threads like this on a stupid message board to try and troll other dive ops. It gets so old reading it.

Could anyone consider a selfish reason for me to post this. I'm telling my own customers to stay away!
