Sorry, but it should have counted. It was NOT interference, as Campbell was already in the air when contact was made. Ricardo ran into him, not the other way around. I, too, have seen it several times in replay, in addition to having seen it in real time. Besides that, the referee was is no position to make that call, and the referee's assistant was satisfied that it was a goal and already heading back up to midfield for the kickoff.

What p****s me off is nothing to do with the football - well done Portugal - England blew it AGAIN. So why is it always so difficult to watch English games on the television? (the point of this thread). It's not as if they are unbeatable and always win!! How come the television stations try to make so much money out of a national game. I mean - the BBC (Britains national TV) aren't allowed to even show highlights. If you do pay through the nose to watch it - what do you see? England generally loses. Something is really wrong when National competitions (not privately owned) are basically sold out to the private sector. In my mind - capitalism gone mad.
(end rant)
Well at least I finally had something to really moan about!!! :monster:

p.s. Beckham p****s me off too. He should spend more time practicing penalties - and less on his haircuts and image.

Scuba Texan,

I think different people who sees the episode will have different opinions.

That´s how I see it:

The contact was made before the goal, it could be when Campbell was already in the air but before the ball enter the "baliza" (I don´t know the name of it in english).

In my point of view it was not Ricardo who ran into the english player but it was him who ran into Ricardo by putting his arm around Ricardo shoulder and that way Ricardo couldn´t jump and avoid the goal. :11:

In football if someone´s interfere with any action of the goalkeeper before the goal it´s fault. Maybe if there was no interference Campbell would have suceed in his attempt of making the goal .... But the interference was made ... ;)

The referee is the person who makes the final decision and not the referee's assistant (the referee can annule the decisions made by the referee´s assistant). I don´t know what the referee saw, only him can know what he really saw - Bu I know what I want to see in my next dive trip - a seahorse or a whale shark !!!!!!!!! :D

In England the people will see the episode many and many times and very slowly and maybe they feel that the referee was unfair - But I assure you that different people from different nationalities will see the episode differently!

That's why this is the greatest game on Earth!

Looking for highlights I came across this on the the BBC Sports site. Shockwave driven virtual replays of all goals. Intersting in that you can watch them from all different angles.

Watching the nullified Campbell goal, all I can say is - I don't know. :D

Ok, so after the "shock" England defeat, has anyone seen the rest of the QF's? Greece 1-0 France, and Holland beat Sweden after penalties - how is that for a dark horse to get in and finally the Dutch team string together their star-studded line-up of wonder players, couldnt win in regular time, but could still beat them with penalties, will they beat Portugal though?? The Dutch have a big thing about star players that are too concerned about getting the glory themselves and they arent a "team" as such. Greece are a real workhorse team - as i got introduced to them by Greek students i was studying with in college. Now i hedge a little on the side of the Czech's when matched against the Danes, just something different about them - real outsiders, but seem to have ground out results against Holland and Germany in the opening rounds and the last few competitions (World Cup and previous Euro) from what i recall. Also maybe the Italians will feel better if the two teams who "fixed" their group with a dull draw are both knocked out? Views?

After today's 3-0 win over Denmark, the Czech Republic's record in both Euro 2004 qualifying and Euro 2004 combined stands at 11 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses. The only blemish on their mark is a 1-1 draw with Holland in Amsterdam, during the qualifying process. Greece has been a wonderful Cinderella story, so far, but the clock is about to strike midnight for them, I'm afraid. As for the other semifinal, Holland will give Portugal all they can handle, but the home crowd will be the difference in getting Portugal through to the final. I'll reserve comment on the final until after the semifinals are complete.

Congratulations to Portugal. Although I did not get to see it, from what I have heard, they pretty much dominated the match. All the best to Holland, as well, for a noble effort during the tournament.

Last night i finally got to see the Portugal v England match on FSW, wasnt bad, although they cut up the extra time into about a minute of highlights to squeeze it into their schedule - adding insult to injury (salt to wound) of them not showing it the first time. Horrendous penalty taking though.

Will watch France v Greece tonight.

Well done Portugal.

Why again are the English press all over a ref who made a bit of a decision???

Thank you for the congratulations!!!!!

I hope to watch a very good game on the final no matter who wins the game !!!!!
