I thought it went to extra time and they got the golden goal - same kind of instant knockout though. But i agree, if it goes beyond the regular 90 minutes we probably wont win in extra time and definately not on penalties!

oh well- I'm through crying now- back to hoping for the next one. I really am getting tired of saying this....

Portugal is in the semi final after a very emotional game!!!!!

Congratulations Portugal and I hope we´ll go to the final.

The english team also played very well and it was a fantastic game !!!!!!!!!! There was no violence problem in the stadium and only for this all the participants are winners!!!!!!!!!

There is no more Golden Goal -- FIFA finally decided enough was enough and decided to go back to the old way of extra time (two 15-minute halves, then penalties).

Sorry- In my misery I failed to congratulate Portugal, well done those chaps, was a game you deserved to win, far more possession than England and better organization.
Now as long as France don't win ;)

Actually i got it all wrong, i was reading the BBC commentary whilst at work - nowhere showing the game again. They said it went 2-1 to Portugal and it looked like they stated it was all over - or maybe i just read that as over from the golden goal business in my head, didnt even realise it went to penalties - i was wondering why a couple of people mentioned penalties ;) Yes in a penalty shootout we alwasy come "close"!

"Now as long as France don't win"

Even we loose in the semifinal we will never forget the game we played yesterday .... We never won an international football competition ... so the victory yesterday was very important to our selfconfidence.

But as I mentioned before there are things much more important than football such as environmental conservation, no violence in sports, no war or hunger in the world, .... ;)

Yes, fair play to Portugal and congratulations. Which is more than I can say to the referee in charge...

FLL Diver:
Beckham's got to practice his penalty kicks as well.

Marc

Sometimes I hate being right.

From the highlights and write ups it seems to have been a good game. Wish I could have watched it.

Marc

Scuba Texan,

the second goal of England was correctly annuled by the referee ... One of the players put his arm in Ricardo´s arms (the portuguese goalkeeper) ... I saw this episode several time on TV
