I hear from a couple of guys who were up at Wabank quarry around Lancaster. (15 min away from Bainbridge) They said the vist is pretty good (30' bad day 40-50' good day). It is 150' max depth and has some assorted junk in it.

There are supposed to be 15 attractions roped together and labeled. (Okay so I guess its not a navigation challenge)

There is a Mapping project for it! ;)

Tombiowami might be heading to Rawlings this weekend and there is another guy (zboss) who should be showing up around here in a sec that is from my area that might go too. Let's see if everyone can come to an agreement on where to go based on everyone's location.

I think LR sounds good. My sister dives regularly at DS and says is pretty darn cold right now. I have camping gear for an overnight.

Lake Rawlings both Saturday and Sunday? Is that the concensus? I have to label myself as "tentative" since I have schedule conflicts both days, but if I can I'll talk/weasel/wiggle out of them.

...this is what I would probably have to do (I will let you know if my Sat. morning obligation changes).

Leave DC around noon or 1 pm. Arrive at Rawlings around 4:00-5:00 pm. Do a night dive. Camp.

Wake up in the morning, do a couple dives and leave mid-afternoon to late afternoon (I like to be home by around 7-8 to clean up gear, etc.).

Hey, I'm posting these details just in case the topic comes up again.

I just got a return call from one Susan Langley, who is associated with the Piney Point Underwater Dive Preserve and a who is herself a dive instructor. She had the following to say about U-1105:

*It's a blackwater dive, so bring lights and backups. Regional weather, such as rain as far away as West Virginia, will affect visibility.
*There is a Coast Guard phone number on the mooring ball: please contact them to advise them you are there, and upon your exit.
*She suggests diving during slack tide. To find the wreck, there is a line from the mooring ball's chain to the conning tower, but that line is frequently under silt. Follow the chain to the silt, and continue hauling up the chain until the line is exposed.
*The site is a US Navy archeological preserve, so "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but bubbles".
*She requests that anyone who dives the U-Boat visit the web site to fill out the questionnaire about the dive: this is so they can show the Navy that people visit the site, and justify further expenditures.
*The Piney Point Lighthouse Museum has a U-1105 display as well.

Susan gave these numbers for possible boat charters:

I am most likely up for Rawlings. A night dive would be cool. I should know by the end of tomorrow.

I could leave pretty much any time on Saturday but there is not point in my leaving early if no one is going to be there.

Who all is going so far?

Hehe too funny tho. Went to Lake Rawlings last weekend, Hatteras on Mon, tues, wed and now back to Rawlings for the weekend.... Sheesh crazy week of fun !!

Rawlings was ..... /DROOL

Vis was nice as along as students werent around and the thermocline was 73 at like 40ish. Max depth we hit was 58 but might be a deeper hole someplace.

I stayed at a local hotel but might have to buy a tent .... eeek just remembered that the gulf hurricane was suppose to hit this area around Saturday so camping might be a bit wet.

Unfortunately - I will not be able to make it this weekend... I just got a big project dumped in my lap and will be working. Hopefully next weekend might work out better... sorry for being a LO-SER! :)
