Hey, I'm posting these details just in case the topic comes up again.
I just got a return call from one Susan Langley, who is associated with the Piney Point Underwater Dive Preserve and a who is herself a dive instructor. She had the following to say about U-1105:
*It's a blackwater dive, so bring lights and backups. Regional weather, such as rain as far away as West Virginia, will affect visibility.
*There is a Coast Guard phone number on the mooring ball: please contact them to advise them you are there, and upon your exit.
*She suggests diving during slack tide. To find the wreck, there is a line from the mooring ball's chain to the conning tower, but that line is frequently under silt. Follow the chain to the silt, and continue hauling up the chain until the line is exposed.
*The site is a US Navy archeological preserve, so "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but bubbles".
*She requests that anyone who dives the U-Boat visit the web site to fill out the questionnaire about the dive: this is so they can show the Navy that people visit the site, and justify further expenditures.
*The Piney Point Lighthouse Museum has a U-1105 display as well.
Susan gave these numbers for possible boat charters:
