Im looking to continue my diving education Iwould like to become an instructor and I got my open water cert. through Padi but Im wondering who is better to get trained by Padi, Naui, or SSI. I was just wondering everyones opinion.

oh boy.. here we go again.....

Go find an instructor you like and get the education you need... forget about the certifying agency

For one, I would like to know. Hope everybody feels the same way.

I agree 100%. Find a shop you like dealing with or if you know an instructor who you think would be a great person to learn from, go with them. You'll hear it a 1000 times....it's all about the instructor.

I agree with the above and I am a NAUI IT (instructor trainer), and I am obviously very pro NAUI. Now having said that I will tell you the same thing that I tell my candidates. If you are serious about making this your livelyhood once you get your first instructor card look into doing a crossover with a second agancy. 2 reasons for doing this: 1) makes you more marketable, some customers are looking for a certain agancy, and if you are doing referals not all agancies honor universal referral (ie. PADI). 2) if at any time in your carreer you have an incident that is being investigated by your agancy (and this can happen even if you do everything right), you may not be allowed to teach for that agancy until you are cleared. You can however continue to teach for another agancy. I also suggest despite my personal feelings about them that one of the agancies be PADI. They are first and formost a business and one cannot argue that they lack in marketing.

Good luck to you and safe dives

I agree. There will be many posts a coming, but none of them will provide any more useful information than this one...

Just to fan the flames. Do not go with any course that allows you to "simulate" a dive scenario to receive ANY certification.

Go do lots of diving first and then you should be able to answer your own questions.

Also, use the search feature on this board and do some reading.

Depends on what you plan to do. If you're going to quit your day job and make dive instruction your new career, and you're allergic to poverty, go PADI. They have the most support for those seeking to make a decent living teaching diving, but the downside is that they expect everyone to be a salesman, and it will feel like you're in Amway.

If you plan to teach part time because you like it, and you don't care about making money, then whichever of the other agencies has training available in your area. They'll give you more freedom to do things your way, and won't expect you to become a salesbot.
