dave4868,

What "big difference" did you find? Breathing on the Atomic was much easier, granted we are comparing a $300 regulator to a $1,300 regulator, more comfortable in your mouth, travels lighter, corrosive resistance to salt water, Din with yoke adapter so you are ready for any situation. The difference between the two regulators would be similar to getting out of a ford mustang and getting into a BMW M5.

Was it cost/benefit? Cost was not a factor.

Was it low breathing effort? Absolutely

High volume of air delivered, especially when deeper than recreational depths? I have only been to 150 and have not noticed any degradation in the air flow at depth.

Tolerance of silty conditions? These regulators are sealed and should not have any issues. I always rinse my gear well after each dive.

Cost of professional servicing? Reliability of that servicing? Since I send my regulators to Atomic Aquatics, I would expect to have the best and most experienced working on my regulator. Again, I spare no cost when my life depends on it.

DIY servicing considerations, such as in-field servicing, parts availability, length of service interval actually needed? I prefer to send my regulators to Atomic for servicing where I feel you will receive superior workmanship and expertise compared with your average mom and pop dive shop.

Unlikelihood of the 1st stage to freeze in freshwater below 40 degrees? Never had a single issue using the Atomic B2 at this temperature. I would not use the T2 in these conditions.

There is no brand of regulator whose top of the line item I would hesitate to use or for that matter rate as any better than any other save on matters of personal preference (e.g., I love side breathers so the Oceanic Omega II was IMHO the finest reg ever made and the Cyclon 300 is damn close behind, but if you want a really dry reg ... then I'm full of it).

A more interesting question might be whose bottom of the line regulator is the best?

I have the b1, the one that was recalledl, I took it in on a recall they changed the part, now if I wanted I could of done a upgrade to it, they say it is to make it breathe easier.

No one has mentioned that the two dudes that started atomics, left scubapro, they learned the way scubapro has came through the years from all the testing.

scubapro is a better bet altogether, been working with reg tolerences, modifying, keeped the best breathers and still manufacture them.

The car joke is just that a joke. The reason atomic is so expensive, Is'nt that Its the bmw or Roles-Royce, The fact of the matter is atomic machines there own product.

The cost to do the few regs that they do is a costly factor, But they are no better than scuba pro, Because it is all scub pro design technique.

I have a hell of a reg selection for my own testing opions, so Im sorry to educate on this of your brand.

Above all the answer has really been given by all the posters, there all the best, I own every one that is mentioned, If you rinse them correctly,, as stated above they can go for more than two years, before service.

Any low end 2nd stage is up to that challenge.

snip....... servicing? .... I prefer to send my regulators to Atomic for servicing ...

OK, now I understand.

I ve been diving a maximus sherwood for the last six years and love it

Breathing is easy and the underarm configuation is great to avoid getting hooked when wreck diving.

the first stage is sealed for cold water with two hp ports and two lp ports and two lp ports with some mecanisim to give you extra air boost when you suck hard.
the second stage has two ajusting nobs one to adjust breathing force and one has two function to moisten the air and in cold water diving helps to prevent freeflow using the heat of your own breath.

FOR WHAT???????? - Dumb Question!!!!!!!!!!

I have Scubapro MK17 with G250V and MK25 with A700. I do deep diving and wreck. They are just great. Breathing is so easy!!! Never tried others though.

:lb: THIS THREAD IS THREE YEARS OLD.

Never mind.
