No, that's not Chinese food. That's Hong Kong, which is a very small slice of China. Tiny, actually.

I love the XLB in Vancouver. I love the Dim Sum.

But what about the Shanghai cooking? What about the Hakka? The Szechuan?

There are over 1B people who eat Chinese food every day that isn't Hong Kong cuisine.

How many Chinese restaurants have you been to in mainland China?

This is like saying because you can get good pizza in NYC at Lombardis the Italian food is better there.
You do realize that Cozumel was uninhabited and many of the best chefs on the island are hardly Mayan natives, but most likely from Mexico City (i.e. Hong Kong)? Why is the food necessarily worse when cooked by a Mexican chef who moved 1,000 miles north and set up shop in the U.S. versus one who moved 1,000 miles east and opened a restaurant on Cozumel?

One thing Mayans actually had in common with Chinese is eating dogs, but try and get yourself a decent dog steak on Cozumel nowadays and the chef from Mexico City will laugh you out of the restaurant. As far as I know, the only dog meat you can find on the island is in the sandwiches at the airport cafe.

Whoa, now wait a minute. Isn't Mexico City Mexican food different from Cozumel Mexican food? Doesn't Mexico have many different profiles? Like cheese. Caaaassssoooooo Oaxaca. (is the cheese guy still wandering around the streets?)

Hey, Moss is that the same meat they uses on the hideously expensive nachos at Air Margaritaville? It was pretty good. I thought it was the fresh guak that made is so tasty.....

When Cozumel was uninhabited, in relatively recent history, there was no Cozumel food.

There is a Yucatecan style of cuisine that differs from Mexico City cuisine and would probably best be enjoyed in areas that have a history of populated settlements there. Not sure if there's a style indigenous to Quintana Roo, which is far more tourist-oriented than the rest of the Yucatan peninsula.

Queso Oaxaca is traditionally from Oaxaca, home to yet another style of Mexican food. Haven't tried the Margaritaville at the airport yet, preferring to eat past security at the Grab & Go. Maybe I'll check it out on this trip. There's hardly any restaurant on the island more authentico Mexicano than Margaritaville :)

The best food is whatever you like best, even if that is pizza in Cozumel. I had great pizza back in 1991 at a place that I don't remember and probably does not exist anymore. It was owned by an Italian immigrant who spoke Italian and Spanish, but not English. Why go to Italy when you can being Italy to your dive vacation?
 
I hear that Chicago native Matteo from Blue Angel slings a mean deep dish pie at O'Hana....
Completely agree. We ate there numerous times during last years vacation and our party of six loved the pizza at Ohana's.
